Your switch might be bad. The switch works off a ground. So you could pull the switch out,(leave wires hooked up to it), and use a test light, hook one end of the test light to ground(-), then touch one of the three prongs and see if the roof opens are slides back, going through all 3 prongs to find which one moves it back.

When you hold the switch down, can you here the motor trying to move, or the motor itself pull down, when trying to get it to slide back-wards?

ill hold the switch down and the glass goes up then I can press it again it moves up slightly more I think thats when it is supposed to slide open I dont hear the motor doing anything after that

Well it defiantly moves back, either something is jamming it, or the switch is bad, or the motor. But i wouldn't bet on the motor.

Just pull the switch out, it's no biggie to do, and test it. This will tell you whats up.

When you say " hold the switch down". Which way are you holding it down, toward the front of the car, or the rear? And when you press it again after it's opened, then which way do you press it ?

Check nothing is lodged in the tracks and keeping it from moving. The motor controls both the up and down movement as well as moving forward and back so it can't be the motor.

See that pin (Right in the middle) to the left there is a plastic part. From looking on the other side of the on my sunroof that pin is not in the way and its on the other side of that plastic part. I need to figure out how to get it back where it belongs pretty sure I have to take out the glass to get to it

Wikipedia said:
A sunroof is an opening in an automobile roof. Sunroofs may be either fixed or operable.

An automotive sunroof is a fixed or operable opening in an automobile roof which allows light and/or fresh air to enter the passenger compartment. Sunroofs may feature a transparent or opaque panel, may be manually operated or motor driven, and are available in many shapes, sizes and styles. (see sunroof definitions below)

Historically, European factory installed sunroofs have been opaque, and slide open to to allow sunshine and fresh air into the passenger compartment. Most factory sunroofs offered today feature a glass panel, and are often referred to as moonroofs.

My interpretation of that is that a sunroof is opaque(light can't pass through it) and can only let in light when it is open and a moonroof is made of glass so the actual panel can be closed and can let light in the car. So by that definition our cars have moonroofs.

The definition that you found said that a sunroof allows light or air into the passenger compartment. So what would a moon roof be? I guess I will look it up.

It's all marketing crap, and I'd not be surprised to find the two terms exist because Ford's late-sixties holes (first on the Thunderbird, I believe) were called "moon roofs" and that they'd probably registered the name, leaving other manufacturers to call them "sunroofs". Then again, Ford are who we blame for the now-defunct "opera windows", too.

The Mits manual calls it a sunroof. So does the Infiniti book for the J30, which is solid steel.

I always thought sunroof was a manual operated one. Like you have to push the bracket for the sun roof to go up or you need to remove the glass by hand to use it. A moonroof to me a powered sunroof. That is what I always thought.

sunroofs are the simple see through pop up styles usually manually operated. moonroofs are the see through ones or not see through ones that can be found that have the tilt and slide feature. bmw moonroofs don't have the see through feature and is just steel, but almost all other cars like hondas and toyotas have the separate sun shade slide. im sure that older models called a moonroof a sunroof as well but all newer cars usually have a moonroof unless installed aftermarket it could just possibly be a sunroof.

I have a 2g gst. I decided to open up my sun roof yesterday and for some reason, it's stuck opened now. When I try to press the button to slide it back, it'll slide back like 1/2 inch or so then slide back out itself. I didn't get the chance to check the fuse or what not but any of you guys ever had a similiar problem or know how I can fix this?

My sunroof would do this sometimes. For a quick fix, try giving it a little pull right before it stops and opens back up. It shouldn't take much. This worked on my sunroof for a while. After a couple of months of giving it that little boost, it stopped working and was just completly stuck on the track at this same spot. I still haven't gotten around to fixing mine so I can't tell you what the actual problem is. If you get it shut, keep it closed until you have some extra time to fix it.

Thats crazy I have the same exact problem. I just kept playin with it and it eventually closed. I haven't opened it since!

well have you lubricated the track the roof stands on and the moving parts? some times its just friction fooling the circuit ... think of it like a safety in case some one is sticking their hands out. if that dose not work find a diagram of the roofs wiring and se if theres a sensor that controls the roof if so that might be the problem.

hope this helps:thumb:

Thanks for all of your responses. I've been so busy working, I just haven't had time to get it checked out. Hopefully I can just take it apart and just clean it up, and everything will work and close properly again. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
