I moved my car to work on the axle, and I just noticed these puddles of yellow-ish fluid, mixed with what looks like oil. As far as I can tell, this fluid came from the front left of the engine bay. I cant tell exactly because I didnt notice them until after i moved the car. Its been sitting on the ground for about 4 days, since thats the last time i drove my car at all. Ive never seen fluid like this, anyone know what it is?

I would check your oil, tranny fluid, and transfer case fluid levels. My transfer case recently locked up on the interstate and now I'm having to deal with all kinds of dealers trying avoid giving me a new transfer case.

Plus it almost killed me. I think it's worth it to check.

It kind of looks like oil mixed with coolant. Bad head gasket possibly. But don't quote me on that

If it looks like a melted Snickers (without the peanuts) mine was water mixed in with the coolant. Definitely check the oil and open up the oil cap on the valve cover and check inside the head as well too to make sure you aren't getting any separation of whatever that is and oil.

Wouldn't hurt either to do a compression/leakdown test either if you haven't done one in awhile.

Sorry dude, from the pics that looks like nothing that would come out of a car, portion of it look like oil, but i can describe what the other white stuff looks like. It even looks like its harden. I was thinking battery acid. I wouldnt worry to much unless you see it again sometime.

I found a fresh power steering leak, running from a loose PS hose onto one of the supports under the engine, then finally onto the ground. Could it be PS fluid mixed with a little oil?

Power steering is reddish, so i don't think so

It could also be grease from the axles. Check to make sure you didn't tear them or anything, the boots can be tricky, it may be hard to find the tear/crack.

Thats definitely oil mixed w/water (or some other watery substance). I used to work at a hydraulic shop and I would always see cheap SOB's that never changed the oil in their systems and their cylinders would be full of whiteish oil that looks just like whats in the pics.

Are you even certain it was from your car? It looks like you're in a parking lot. It could have been there when you parked for all you know.

Are you sure they are both from your car? They're on two different sides of the yellow line.

Looks like melted CV grease that then dried up a bit in the sun. Look for a slightly oily spot on the CV boots. It wouldn't have dripped cleanly out of the crack. Some oily residue should be there to help you spot it.

If it's still there:
Is it real slippery?
Does it smell slightly burnt?

Slippery - Some type of lubricant.
Burnt - Lubricant that gets hot.

The second and third pictures show that some has soaked into the sealant on the blacktop. Had to be oil based to do that.

I would get under the car and see if you can find any stuck on the motor somewhere, looks like nothing i have seen before besides what comes with a blown head gasket but im sure thats not the case...

It could also be brake fluid. If its been siiting for four days like you said it did then it might have leaked and absorbed some moisture out of the air, hence, the yellow-like coloring. I would check all the fluid levels of the car and go from there.:thumb:

After reading these replies, and analyzing about where the fluid came from, here is what I have concluded: The fluid in the top pic is power steering fluid that has absorbed copious amounts of moisture, but didnt soak into the ground. The other two little spots are oil that have soaked into the asphalt then absorbed a tiny amount of moisture. I found the PS leak, as well as the loose bolts on the oil pan responsible for the oil, and have sealed those up. As soon as I put the axle back in, I will be able to drive and see if those leaks are, in fact, fixed. Thanks for all the input!

Looks like you engine might be the coolant/oil blender. Either that or it's leaking an unknown substance from an unknown place that no one knows about.
