So time to start up a new thread for this winter's projects. What are you guys working on? What are your plans for next season? I'll reply pretty soon with my plans, though they're pretty much the same as this past year.

I plan to replace my dented oil pan, and gasket. After I have a tubular mani waiting to be installed. Next summer turbo back 2.5 or 3 " exhaust I hope

I'm gonna finally weld up and install the 3" turboback for my car this weekend! :rocks:

As any other tuners member, a 2.3 6 bolt build will be finished and dropped in the car.

Also the 93 TSI will be prepped for SCCA and NASA in the spring! AND a nice tilt bed trailer will be fabbed to haul the 93 around the Midwest.

Of course, as all plans, destined to change ;)

Next year will be my entry into NASA TT. I hope to attain my license in the first few events and then compete in what's left of the season. I still need to get a dyno day in and have my car classified, but as it stands I'm running competitive times around TWS. We'll just have to see if there is anyone to race with.

As for the car, I'm debating changes depending on where I want to get classed. I'm running the EvoIII at 11 psi on street tires at the moment, but contemplating turing up the boost a notch or two and swapping over to R-compounds. I suspect I'll be either in TTD or TTC. Brakes will also depend on whether the power levels increase. Set of Brembos waiting on the shelf just incase. Other than that, she's pretty sorted out and ready for competition.

Oh almost forgot...getting a daily driver in the spring.

Even though there is no "real" winter in Florida. I just ordered some brake ducting and bumper inlets to install before the next round of my race series. Should be here middle of next week. Trying to keep the brakes a little more cooler than there getting now. Messed up some rotors last event by getting too hot and some other issues. Just trying to keep their temps down as much as possible. Here is what the ducting and inlets look like.

I will be purchasing a new 2g for next year's season. I will be picking up the car within a week. My plans are not set as for mods, but I know I'll be upgrading to a TCE brake kit.

but I know I'll be upgrading to a TCE brake kit.

Make sure you get the 1.25" thick rotors. :thumb:

I'm just looking to do my seats/harnesses/cage, and maintenence, timing belt, balance shaft belt (or eliminator kit, haven't decided yet), and like that.

Also install the Supra pump I've got laying about, and get an AFPR, 272's, lifters, SM intake... WTF What, that isn't maintenence?

Where'd you order that?

Anything that fits an EVO VIII will clear the caliper.

I'm rebuilding the engine, might put in some 2G pistons. Then save for a while to do a tranny and maybe a 4-bolt rear, then cams, FP 18G, DSMLink with 2G MAS and fuel system upgrade, and ETS 1G street/strip FMIC.

raptor - I ordered it through a place called IO Port Racing Supply. Sorry I don't have the URL right off the top of my head, I'm out Xmas shopping right now. But I'm sure its easy to find off of any search engine. IO Port Racing Supply. Most of the time they are about the best priced place for things like this. I hope this helps.

Thank you, will search.

Chris- Why is this in the Road race/autocross section...:|
Just wondering please don't hurt me. :sosad:

Anytime raptor. Let me know if you find everything ok.

Well, I am saying good by to the DSM community. However, the few I have met in person I have enjoyed your company.

By spring I will have a new toy but right now its to early to tell what its going to be. I have looked at everything from a mini cooper to a z06, I figure I have until April to figure it out. What ever I get will have a clean bolt in hoop, harnesses, Hawk Blues (or equivelent), coilovers/swaybars, slicks. I don't think my next car will have that many motor mods probably keep it mostly stock so i can afford the maintance.

Next season will be quite interesting for me. My car has primarily been my daily driver/weekend drag warrior. Now that I do not need it for daily driving, all of my plans have changed.

First, the car will be slightly lightened: sound deadening, radio plus all speakers, entire A/C system, lightweight battery plus relocation, entire rear seat assembly gone, two recaro's up front, airbags gone.

Second, new fuel system: Walbro 255 hp pump, 1600cc injectors, plus adjustable AFPR. Less base pressure will lower the true output of the 1600's however only enough to keep the walbro pump in a happy zone and support more power.

Third, turbo setup: Venom intake mani, AGP FMIC kit, BW S256 turbo with bolt on housing. Quick spool, good transient response, and enough juice to support 120 traps on pump.

Fourth, suspension: I already have a decent shock/spring combo. I'll probably just pick up the RRE big rear sway bar. Big brakes up front as well as decent pads.

I'm not trying to build a car taylored to just one type of racing style. Something that I can still drive to work on a Friday or while hanging out with the guys, something I can go to the dragstrip and run some mid 11's, something I can autocross once in a while, and maybe do some road coarse track days in(if only that wasn't so expensive, I wish I could do it all the time). Then when my stock shortblock blows up ROFL, i'll build it. Half of the listed parts are sitting at home. Hopefully the rest are still within budget. :shhh: ;)

If I wasn't selling my car (well, I THINK I sold it. No check yet), here's what I would do:

1. Add aero. I never realized how important aero was until I ran Road America with 50 more horsepower, and couldn't get over 145 mph--just two more mph than last year--mostly because I broke off the air dam at the previous event. Who woulda thunk that a little 6-inch rubber air dam helped so much? I would add a splitter in front and a NASCAR-type Gurney flap/spoiler in back to get downforce and to help air flow over and around the car. With more downforce, I probably would have set the fastest lap at Iowa Speedway. As it was, I was 6th fastest of all the cars in TT and the race groups, and was one of the only cars that could run the high groove flat out all the way around the banking. With more downforce, it would have been awesome!

2. Add castor. My camber plates let me go to about -6 degrees camber, but I can't adjust castor. Elevenhome explained to me that more castor would help the inside front wheel stick better. (I will let him explain the technical details of why that is so)

3. Corner weight the car and find a pro to help me set up the suspension. Our cars sit too high to corner like a Miata, so it is critical to get the maximum stick that's available. The alternative would be to flare the fenders and lower it another two inches, but that's pretty radical. Maximizing the chassis setup by a pro is the better solution, I think.

4. Put stock motor mounts back in. My 2.3 stroker has the balance shafts removed, so it vibrates. Rubber mounts instead of poly would help.

5. Put poly mounts in the suspension. I have a photo of my car on the high banks at Iowa Speedway, showing the right front wheel (which was set to -6 camber) standing straight up from the cornering forces. Gotta get rid of the flex in the suspension to keep the tires at the proper angle.

6. Upgrade the rear brakes and/or install a proportioning valve to get more braking power in the rear. With stock rear brakes and the stock proportioning valve, the rear brakes are just along for the ride, and help very little in stopping the car. I am still running the same rear rotor, and changed the rear pads only once in two seasons.

None of these mods would cost very much, but when you run in TTA or TTS, you need every advantage you can get. The car is at the maximum hp/wt ratio for TTS, so more horsepower won't help. All I need is to gain a second a lap to run with the Big Boys in either class (I run in a region that supplied most of the podium winners at the Nationals in TTA and TTS) , and I was going to do it with aero and suspension tweaks, not horsepower. If I was in any other region of the country, my car would probably own the TTA or TTS class.

the 13 inch rotors??? do those require a certian offset wheels?

do the 1.25, I run the 13x1.10. Ive got a shit ton of clearance on my 5zigen fno1rc at 42 offset with 18x7.5 and 235/40/18.. For the track I use stock evo 8 rims, clear without ahitch, but much closer to the caliper, still enough room for the 1.25 tho, so definitely go those!

I have zero projects planned for the Archer track car this winter. First time in a long time.

I have to track down a small coolant leak on my '95 GSX street car.

In winter I move on to vintage snowmobile projects.........

Yeah I am pritty set on the 13in x 1.25thick rotor. I will be calling up TCE to get them ordered in the next few weeks. Need to get a new clutch put in the car first.

This is my winter project that I just picked up last weekend. The car may look familier:

I've already started some of my Winter plans. Here's a quick list of the changes and parts on the car in the past month or so.

Rear powerslot BB rotors replaced (Front Baer rotors will need replaced soon)
Porterfield R4S pads all around
Fresh Motul fluid
RRE downpipe
RRE test pipe
Aeromotive FPR
FIC 750cc Injectors
Walbro 255 Fuel pump
DSMLINK
AEM Uego Wideband
Battery relocation
Fuel pump rewire
More Strict diet (no more sound deadening, carpet padding, ABS ecu, random steel mounts, battery tray, rear seats, rear seat belts, etc.)

As for the rest of the winter, I'm looking to pick up some decent 17x8 wheels, replace a worn tie rod end, get inspected, start tuning, etc. I'll also be doing whatever I can within my budget to make it a fun autocross car because I'll be doing that quite a bit starting in the spring. If my budget allows, I think the next thing is a smaller steering wheel and a nice seat.
