i just got my howell automotive pulley, and i was noticing something maybe it may be just my pulley but the accessory belt they sent has five ribs on the belt to match the powersteering and a/c pulley, but the underdrive pulley only has room for four ribs on the belt causing the belt to be to big on the underdrive pulley so my question is...is everyones pulley like this or was mine just made wrong? and second if mine isnt the only one what did everyone use to improvise on this problem?

any input/advice would be greatly appreciated :thumb:

Wow... I've never heard of this one before. My UDP and PS/AC pulleys have the same number of grooves: five.

i guess i must of gotten one that wasnt machined properly:confused: i did have to wait a month before receving it because they had to machine more becuase they were out of the pulleys from what the howell representative told me

I don't think they lied to you, I'm sure they did have to machine more. They're the type of company that doesn't keep any stock until a customer orders; they'd rather have the customer wait... I'm not bashing them, but that seems to be how they operate.

I'd give them another call just to see what they say. Ask if they can explain the defect, and when you can expect another. Calmly state that you've planned your project around this part arriving, and you can't afford another month of down time.

Good luck.

i know they didnt lie im sure its a very popular product amongst us 420 owners :thumb: i was just wondering if anyone had to improvise :thumb: but i will for sure give them a call and ask to see what can be done to resolve this problem in a cool manner of course thanks for the input tho i really appreciate it :rocks:

this just happend to me too...the pulley came with a 4 rib belt and a 5 rib belt which i am supposed to have because the alternator is 4 rib and the p/s is 5 rib. but on the pulley both of the belt tracks are 4 rib.

The 4 rib belt will work, the one missing rib will not cause for any loss of power or any other such problems. I have run 4 rib belts on 5 rib pulleys before; I never ran into any problems.

i just cut one of the ribs off becasue finding a belt that was a close resemblence of our stock belt was hard it was either to small or to big so that was my last resort but it sqeaks when i turn to make a u turn i dont know if its either to tight or loose any suggestions?

hey you could also check out gates belts, they have spec. racing belts.
