Hi,

Why is that?

Can't wait to see the car and to see some pics of it.

Goodluck with everything,
Bill

basically we have to get the car lower and the volks we have will not work to tuck the wheels in more. We did narrow the front k member which was ahuge job in itself to get the geometry correct for no bumbsteer. We also need wider wheels and volk does not make a 15x10 or anything really close off of the shelf and I not comfortable spending that much money and time waiting and have it hold the car up.

I am thinking of the weld magnum drags with the Gold center

The pic is just a generic pic and size to give you an idea.

John,

It seems next season will be one hell of a good time when you get the talon on the track.

I was pretty bummed when we missed you at the shoot-out 07'. Well..... to see the car at the least, Rain blows.

What are some extra safety precautions your doing for next season to run 7.5's?

Also what did you remove from the car to loose more weight?

Sorry guys I made a post and must have forgot to submit reply.

Car is coming along nice but slow. We are down to the rear hatch and wing and some tin work then choosing new wheels. Unfortunately the volks will not work anymore.

I expect about another month in paint after that and a few months of assembly so it "should" be ready for some spring testing. The car will be another 150 lbs or so lighter and we will be using a much larger turbo.

As for names.. well I don't really have any for it unless something goes wrong then I have plenty of names for it.

So your going bigger than the 4202R?OMG

The cage is a 25.1 spec certified to 6.50. think of it as a pro stock chassis. The hard part is making it look like a car again.

The turbo will be a gt47 or a hybrid version of it.

So your skipping the GT45 and going straight to the GT47 or equal? So what are us viewers going to expect from your new setup when its up and running. What are your goals?

OMG Can't wait for next year...I think some people will be disapointed that you've had to go so far away from being streetable, but on the other hand the majority of us can't wait to see what you've come up with! It's going to be a wild season and we're behind you all the way!

It is a tough balancing act but the bottom line is I want to go faster.. much faster and the only way to do that is making it safer as well. I am not out to get killed in this thing though, I am out to gain the respect of everyone that cracks on or otherwise jokes about dsm's. I will be most likely racing some different types of races next year.

We have had offers to take the car to New Zealand, Russia, Puerto Rico, Greece etc and also want to do some domestic type races where I can fit in.. and maybe pinks all out in Norwalk :)

+1 on the pinks idea, make sure you scare rick with one of those left pulling 60's, be sure you're on the right lane so he can crap his pants. We're all behind you shep, you represent us all, and have all our respect, so GO! go get those who make fun!! hahahaha

I don't blame you shep after watching your videos where you are skating down the track in different directions and even coming really close to the wall.

Pinks would be sweet.... But how many cars will they get that will actually run mid 7's?

Theres not a big enough cast of cars, v-8 or whatever.... They'd most likely do a mid 10 sec class if it came to Norwalk..

I'm down to be on Pinks all out!!! If they did a mid to high 11 class:thumb:

They just did a 12.5 class here in tucson a week ago.

A couple buddies and I were talking about how most of the cars you've been running against are nearly full tube frame chassis, while you were still completely unibody...Eventually you've got to start getting crazier to keep up and compete, not that you were having too much difficulty anyways!

X2 on the pinks idea. I've dreamed of seeing your car on pinks, shutting down the 4banger haters. good to hear some safety measures being taken, i was just discussing that with some others on here somewhere. It was only a matter of time before the inches from the wall became full contact.

If you can show us pics of the shell, or whats left after modification that'd be really cool

keep up the good work

He has helped me there, in college(automotive technology) I was running mid 12's and my instructor said thats all I would get out of my car. I explained how my 16g was a sissy turbo compared to people with more money's setups. So I whipped out a video of shep and showed him whats up. He said "Thats 1/8th mile" I replied "150's is pretty good trap speeds for 1/8th mile runs" and he shut up for the rest of the year.

I saw John blow away rx7.com at Bandamir speedway in Denver, and ever since then I have been pushing for the times he was running then.

Thanks for the insperation John, Good luck.

I'm don't care if you built a tube chassis, I love seeing your car fly down the track. It makes me giddy.

Let me tell you something. When it comes to Import vs Domestic arguments, everyone is biased and reason is thrown out the window. It really is a penis measuring contest. I'm on the fence since I like so many cars and worked on some many different. I like everything to a quick Civic to a sick Mustang. Both sides of the argument refuse to admit anything but that their platform is superior. You will never get a domestic guy to admit that your car is better in anyway. They will say something like well "so n' so" is running "X.xx @ xxx.xxMPH"

That would be cool to see. But as said before I can't see them running a 8.X field let alone 7.X

I'd love to see it racing in some 1/8 mile outlaw stuff...If you can get it in the 4s things could get interesting. Can't wait to see it out again! Are you going to try 4 beadlocked wheels? Might have some advantages, seems to work well in Outlaw 10.5 and Radial for the domestic crew...

Lysergic speaks the truth.

Fast is fast, regardless of the platform. I don't even bother engaging in these arguments as I'd rather be drinking than debating with some ignorant asshole (whatever the car he drives) about what is 'fast'.

It sounds like John is playing it rather smartly, as a man of his caliber should.

Its cool its being built with an open mind for racing it. Seeing as the NHRA just dropped their Sport Compact sanction (to NOPI) there are even less places to race these cars, but If you can make it against the Outlaws, then you can race every weekend for 5-50K dollar pay-outs.
