well looks like the fellas at Straight Line Specialties will be making me an exhaust and intake manifold!

Been talking to Nick and he has done some great stuff for me in the past and has some great ideas too!
This is the last DSM manifold he made for me. HOTNESS!

day by day this plan comes together more and more and I get more and more excited about it.

What suspension, aero, and tires are you running?

haven't decided on any of that yet. Keep in mind the car hasn't even been stripped down yet. WTF

I think once we get her on the track and really start to see what we need we'll decide on all of those factors. My plan aero wise is to work off of the 2gb setup. I haven't finalized my thoughts on suspension or tires just yet.

well, if money is not too much of an issue, you can't beat the hoosiers! I like to run toyo proxy RA-1 mainly because 2-3 sets will last me a season.

Modified for now at Redline Time Attack and kind of see where we can enter from there.

To be honest Marty Grand and/or CJ Moses will be driving the car competitively at first. I have a long way to go and these two guys will help me get there in a big way. I can't wait!

I am looking for another 7 bolt long block to send to SBR so it can be built while i try to sneak in some track time on a 400ish hp setup to really find the weaknesses of my chassis.

Did we find one yet Marti?

NASA just announced a rule change in its GTS class that alters the AWD penalty. This does not affect TT or PT classes, but I have hopes that this signals a willingness to change the rules on AWD.

If they would elimiinate the AWD wt/hp penalty, then we would be much more competitive in classes like TTS, TTU, PTS and PTU. For example, I would be allowed to take my car from 355 to 400+ hp, where it would be competitive again in TTS.

I know, I know, all you guys have whupped up on Z06es and M3s and such on road courses in HPDE events. Problem is, you are running against amateurs in Z06es who are afraid to drive them hard, or don't know how, or don't want to risk their cars. Try running against the top dogs in NASA, and you will see what a Z06 is capable of when properly prepared and driven by a pro.

Point is, if NASA comes around on the AWD issue, we will be able to compete against those cars at the highest levels.

Almost makes me wish I wasn't selling the Eclipse.

An offer was made and accepted, and I am just waiting for the deposit to arrive for it to be a done deal.

Strangely enough, I am selling it to the guy who built it originally. It's essentially the same car he built, but all sorted, upgraded, and has an AMS stroker motor that can go up to 700 hp if he wants (with a few changes, such as a ball bearing turbo, or so AMS tells me). It won't leave the DSM road race community, because he'll be running it at Mid-Ohio, Nelsons Ledges and similar tracks. It has a history, since it was built to run the 2003 One Lap, so it will be good to see it stay around.

I can't think of a better person to sell it to. At least he'll understand it, which is more than I can say. I just drive it and leave the tuning and fiddling to my crew of mechanical and electronic geniuses--which is what you need to be to run one of these cars.

Maybe someday you'll see it on a track near you. If he puts some aero on it, he'll be the one hitting 153 mph at Road America.

I acctually understand. I just sold my car to a guy in NY as I was offered the right amount. A new 2g Shell is currently in the works and WILL be at the tracks this next season. I have really enjoyed this thread as its also giving me some sort of guide lines to follow for my new 2g build over the winter.

Poop, I hope you and Jon, Mike, Brent and all you Iowa cat's will stay involved in this forum, I never listen to you guys, ROFL but a lot of people do, and y'all are very helpful.

Looking forward to spring! :rocks:

P.S. no, you can't have 'er back. ;)

OMG

I demand a project thread once started.

Here's a pic for you, the cars are now in Canada, they want 50K for the 2 cars, a bit to pricey.... Maybe they would share some advice on the build?

Ancient archers cars

Good luck with your car, you have one of the few threads that I had interest in months. Always interested in a monster time attack 2G, GO FOR IT.

I really would like to see the final product of this project, You dont see many 2g's in time attack.
Any word in what suspension would be going for in the end?
JIC maybe?

Thanks.

Just my personal preference for sorting a car. Keep in mind, I don't know how serious you are, and I'm unfamiliar with "time-attack" rules.
1. Chassis*
2. Suspension
3. Diffs
4. Gearbox
5. Brakes
6. Motor/turbo

* Installing a proper cage, seam welding, and painting are easier done now rather than later, this is a no brainer to me. Also, choosing dampers, springs, gear ratios/final drives, and brakes before knowing the final weight of the chassis is a bit foolish, as it will more than likely change.

Just read through the entire thread and im subscribing to it!

This is gonna be one nasty car! Lots of really good information too, keep it going!

Actually, we can run with Evos and STIs, as long as they are basically stock. It's when they start modding them up that they give us difficulties. I remember being on the same track as the AMS Evo, and he came up on me (and everyone else) like a bullet train! It was insane how fast that car was--and it's even faster now.

The real killer is that--because of NASA's 4-door rule--we get penalized for being AWD and the Evos and STIs don't (NASA's 4-door allowance cancels the AWD penalty), so we are down 50-60 hp to them in all classes.

We've tried explaining this to NASA. but it falls on deaf ears over there.

Well maybe this project will change that. I know it's easy to say this, but, if your not gonna try and be on top of the competition then why compete at all.

It seems to me that prostreetdsmx1 is planning on running with and beating the big boys, and he's putting all his resources into this project.

Dont get me wrong, I like EVO's and STI's, I just like my DSM better and, just like everyone else in this community, would love to see this car stick it to them.

I'm rootin' for you man, and if i'm this amped about the project I can only imagine how amped you are about it!:rocks:

Give us detailed updates on the car, and of course lots of pics.:thumb:

Yes, it is real easy to say that from the outside, looking in. All this road racing stuff looks real easy from the peanut gallery, doesn't it?

I've been trying to win a NASA championship for two years, and have done everything I can to be "on top of the competition," as you so delicately put it.

I maxed out my car for the TTS class within the rules, and I do beat EVOs and STIs running in my class in my NASA region. It takes Hoosiers to do it, though, which are a huge expense ($1200 a set for 17x275s, and they need to be replaced every other event). Evos and STIs aren't the problem anyway--it's them damn 410 hp Z06es in my class, which are driven by near-pro drivers! Two of the podium winners at the NASA nationals in my class were Z06es that came from my region. Because of the rules, they (and the Evos) can run 410 hp, while I am limited to 355. And there ain't nothing I can do about it (within the rules).

Getting back to the Evos--My point is that, no matter what NASA class you run a DSM in, you are at a 50-60 hp disadvantage to EVOs and STIs because of the weird 4-door rule. If you run NASA's TTR class, where there essentially are no rules, then a DSM can whup up on the Big Boys if you spend enough money. I don't know anything about Time Attack, its classes and its rules.

Of course, if you have enough money, you can win anything. A 700 hp DSM that weighs in at 2000 lb could rule the tracks. That would only cost about $50,000*. I'll just go out back to the money tree and get what I need to stay "on top of the competition."

*Yes, I know drag racers get 700 hp and don't spend $50,000 to do it. But I bet their motors wouldn't last two laps at a road race.

...if your not gonna try and be on top of the competition then why compete at all.

For the sake of competition. Have you ever noticed that even mid pack and at the very back of the field there is always a battle for position going on? It doesn't matter where you are in the rankings. If you love to drive your car 10/10ths against other people of equal (or better yet, greater!) skill level, and have the financial availability, then why wouldn't you? It's always great to be in the top 3 where all the cameras tend to go. But racing is racing to me. IDK about you.
