Hey guys, my girlfriend's car is a 2003 civic and it has a problem of shutting off while she is driving. She lives in TX and I'm in MA so I can't really just go look at it, but i asked her if her cd player shuts off when this occurs (to check to see if all electrical was going out) and she said no. She took it into the dealer and they cant find anything wrong with it. Apparhently they checked the computer etc. Help?

Thanks!:laser:

Check that the connections on the battery and grounds are tight.

i second the grounding thing. I would look at the hood around the battery to make sure nothing is connecting the battery/hood.

Uhm, he already answered this question. He said that he asked her if the CD Player (since girls pay a lot of attention to these old things) turns off when her car dies. And she responded that it does not. Meaning it is not electrical. At least not Power Related. Its mechanical or sensor related causing the vehicle to die.

Listen to LSD, Take the damn honduh back to the dealer and ask for a different tech, maybe one that actually has a ASE Badge.

I would have to say, even tho she couldn't check these things, Fuel and Spark ofcourse. Loose Wires on Electrical system for the spark distribution. Dieing fuel pump, something that is working but possibly when under heavy demand for fuel, like acceleration, can't provide enough and car dies. Very similar to Vapor Lock, found on old cars and some v8 powered race cars, where a fuel line is really close to a high heat source, which causes the fuel to boil, creating tons of vapor instead of fuel, causing the car to die from not enough fuel to run.

Does it start right up after, or does she have to wait?

Knowing this could help also. If it usually doesn't start right back up and she has to wait... She can do something, prime the fuel right after it dies. Key on, off, on off... getting fuel pressure in the system, it should start right up after a good prime. If not, you could have her pay attention to the temp gauge, if a car is severely overheating, it could die. I've had cars do this to me, when its running in the red area on the oem gauges, the car will have a severe loss of power (duh) and die... or it will just start smoking and not start up again LOL.

ok so just to update...she found out the weight of her keychain was shutting the car off. HAHA. Thanks though!:laser:

Meh. I'll leave my stuff on there. I only have the keyless entry, house key, apartment key, Club key, USB drive, and a necktie.
