if i buy a S-AFC II do i also need to buy a data logger to go along with it? sorry if this is a obvious question but everytime i search it says i cant search because im not using enough words

Yes. SAFC is a piggyback device that allows you to changes settings. . A logger is used to log parameters to see what you need to change.

As for the search try 'SAFC logger'.

data logger maybe, wide band o2 definately.

Wideband tells you the A/F ratio.

Datalogger tells you all this...

OBDII Parameters:
Calculated Load
Coolant Temperature
Short Term Fuel Trim Bank X
Long Term Fuel Trim Bank X
Intake Manifold Absolute Pressure
Engine RPM
Vehicle Speed
Ignition Timing Advance
Intake Air Temperature
Air Flow Rate from MAF
Throttle Position
Oxygen Sensor Bank X Sensor Y

Datalogger + SAFC and maybe wideband, not the other way around.

so can i just buy a dsmlink and thats all or will it be dsmlink plus a logger, i know i would need a laptop with the dsmlink but that shouldn't be a problem
Logger is built into DSMLink. Please don't make me ask you again to use proper punctuation and caps when posting in the tech sections. ;)

Don't get me wrong, I would really love to have DSMlink, but the statement "it's only an extra couple hundred dollars" is a bit far-fetched, especially if you gotta go get an EPROM ECU.

Hmmm... Palm $10-$50; Pocketlogger with Hotsync cable $145; SAFC $200; Grand Total: LESS THEN $400.

EPROM ECU $250; DSMlink $550; Cheapie Laptop $150; Grand Total: CLOSE TO $1,000.

Option 3) EPROM ECU + Stage III Chip = $425, and you get all this:
http://www.dsmchips.com/2g.html

Andy (one of our Wiseman) used a Stage III chip and only used an AFPR to turn his fuel down after seeing knock on his boost gauge (gauge converted to see knock sum).

The only difference is that you can't change your settings on the fly like with DSMLink. If you want any changes you have to send the chip to Jeff and have him re-burn an image. You can even tell Jeff that you run 93 Octane (if you do) and have him make a custom map to run 11.5:1 A/F ratio and save you from buying a wideband o2.

What is the difference between the DSMLink, and a DSMChip?

Option 4) There is also ECUPlus (ECU+) which gives you almost everything like DSMLink (except stutterbox) but does NOT require you to buy an EPROM ECU. An advantage is that you can hook up a GM MAF without needing a MAFT.
http://www.ecuplus.com/features.htm Between $450 and $550 and you need a laptop.
