I attended my first autocross event this past Saturday with my Dodge Avenger. I had a blast, and will do it as much as possible next year with my Laser.

However, back on subject. I noticed after every run, I'd pull in line to go again and I could hear my lifter's clacking. Are there any special tricks to keeping solid oil pressure throughout the motor even through longer sweeping bends?

Me and my dad built a saturday night race car in the stock class at the local speedway, and I remember oil would leak right out of the valve cover breathers on the right side from the cornering. Is there any special breather setup that should be looked into as well?

Since I'm wrong wheel drive, will it help at all to move the battery to the hatch? I know it helps awd's, but does anyone have any experience with doing this to a Fwd 1g?

Basically, I'm looking for any special prepping tips for just having a good time and yet being able to be competitive while driving to and from the event.

Btw, these questions pertain to my Laser RS-T, FWD.

Well,
I wouldn't modify unless you understand the rules. As for oil starvation, I have never personally experienced it. But what weight oil are you running? Was it full?

10w30 and yeah, it was full.

As long as your oil is topped off in your Laser you should be fine, I just ran mine yesterday and had no problems whatsoever. Moving the battery back is going to move you into a different class depending on what you've already done to it and the gain would be negligible.

What class would I fit into then for a stock 90 FWD Laser? Is all the classing information on the SCCA L.o.L. region website?

L.o.L. Website is a joke. The L.O.L is really like 3 seperate clubs right now. I am not sure but I think the SCCA needs to do something with that region. For example I race with the SCCS(sports car club of siouxland). We are like a sub chapter or something. however all our member dues etc go to the L.O.L we don't see any of that money, and now with the new recommended $15 dollar up charge for non members etc....

What actual "club" do you race with Lacroix? MAC?

Your laser should be fine as long as you keep the oil level full and your oil pump is working properly.
There is a link on the main page for cars and rules etc.

I experience oil issues only if I'm running low, otherwise it's fine. Same goes for fuel, anything less than 1/4 tank isn't enough to keep the pump fed.

I believe I'd be in the Lacrosse, WI "club"?

Thanks for the responses, I'm sure I'll have many more questions. I'm already excited for next year's autocross season. :D

Your car would be in "G Stock" class. Stock is not a precise term in SCCA autocross, there are a few things you can do to your car, download the pdf file with the rules from www.scca.org

Ok, it looks like I'll be going for the Street Prepared class. The tire I've decided to save for is the Falcon Azenis RT-615, due to being cheap and having very good reviews. Do you guys think I should try and find rims that are wider or should I rock the stock rims and go with tires to fit the stockers? Size I'm thinking is 225-50-R16.

Of course, another option would be to pick up some stock 17's that came on 2g's or Avengers to get a slightly smaller sidewall and better response.

I'm still learning about tire sizing and what not, so any input on drawbacks to that size would be welcome.

normally with the oil level you can safely add a 1/4 inch past the full line, because when your engine is in the upper rpm range or in racing condition most of the oil is stuck up in the top end so thats why you get starvation.

In a nutshell, 4g63t DSM's don't seem to have g-force related oil control issues.

You should fill out your vehicle profile, so we can be more specific/helpful on some of your other points.

Just did, thanks for reminding me.

Your best bet for street tires would be in something like "STX" class. In there everyone is limited to street tires but are allowed some mods, just don't mess with your boost or recirc system as that's a quick way to end up in SM with 1 mod!!

Should you feel the need to get different wheels try to go wider more than taller/less profile, the low pros are more responsive but much less forgiving. I made this mistake last year, most good street tires have a good enough sidewall they won't flex too much and will respond just fine and its more forgiving with some flex.
