Wondering if my alt is dead or dying. Car still will not run right. But now DSMLink will not connect. The radio stopped working. And I tryed to drive it around the block running pig rich to see what would happen and the head lights are stuck on.

Wondering if a dead alt will cause the radio not to work and it not be able to connect to dsm link. I have a otptima yellow top in the car so its got plenty of juice.

Thanks,
Josh

I'm just curious even though your alt. might be dead/dying. I don't believe that would cause your headlights to be stuck on.

I know that if the alt. is dying or dead your electronics turn off they don't spring to life and stay on.

I would check out the ECU as well. Since DSMLINK will not connect and you say your battery has enough juice.

+2.

For a dying alternator, his gauge lighting(I.E. battery light) should stay on. I would first look at the ECU as it was said, then I would look at the fuse box under the hood(just in case you haven't done so already). Also, check the wiring. I had an issue similar to this a few years back.

Careful, I just had this problem and it was the voltage regulator in the alternator. MMCD was reading 17-18 volts from the battery. Some radios will not work above a certain input voltage. Replaced the alternator and everything was OK.

Thanks guys autozoned my alts. 4 out of the 5 are dead LOL. Also the alt fuse blew so I tryed to jump it with some wire and said. "Whats the worst that can happen?" Start the car up and FOOM!!! Up in flames! Hope everything is ok LOL. Going to get a real fuse in a minute! Supposedly dsmlink will not connect with a dead alt.
