I have a question for the road race guys. I want to start racing MY DSM (1990 Talon Turbo), however, I am afraid of spending money buying race parts; then when I need something factory like bushings, control arms, rear Diff, etc., they can't be found. Either the part has been discontinued or nobody sells it. The older our cars get, the harder it will be to find parts. What do you think? Where do you find replacement parts for you race car? I love DSMs and don't want to get a Honda or an American car just because more parts are available.

My first piece of advice would be, DONT GET A HONDA!!! As for the parts, yea as our car gets older it may get harder to find parts, but not impossible. You may not be able to find stock parts as easilly but you'll always be able to find aftermarket parts.

Oh, and one more thing, DONT GET A HONDA!!!

Consumable parts like timing belts, brake pads and anything that's expected to wear out over time are actually pretty easy to find...even for a 1G.

As for driveline, power & suspension bits, there's still a huge aftermarket for that.

All other parts can be found real cheap at a pull-it-off-yourself junkyard or this sites classifieds...you can a whole rolling chassis (no motor & trans) for less than a grand!

I can name two Honda's that are meant for Road Racing.

what? you are having trouble finding aftermarket parts for your 1gen? your out of your mind

I'm talking about stock parts, bushings, control arms, etc.

i agree with everyone else, finding that stuff is like seeing a civic with a fart can and a mustang with dual exhaust, its everywhere!
junkyards especially, and the rolling chassis idea is also good.
dont give up hope man!

Find yourself a new parts department! I have a friend that works in Chrysler Part Sales and he always finds what I am looking for!

I have replaced just about every part on my car (it seems like it, anyway), and haven't had that much trouble finding them. What annoys me the most is that our replacement parts are probably being made in China, which means they are cheap Chinese junk and not nearly as good as the OEM parts. In my case, this applies to the starter and shifter cables, which were crap, and had to be replaced again. I hear rumors that the oil pumps suck, too.

At least when you buy race parts, they are strong and well made.

I couldnt agree more. Face it, our cars are getting old, and if you want to build it up, at some point your gonna find yourself going bumper to bumper replacing old worn parts.

The best thing to do is replace the stock parts with stronger aftermarket parts as the stock parts break. After all the bugs in the car are worked out, than at least youll know you have a solid well built car that can support heavy modding. If you start with speed mods first youre gonna end up working backwards, ### with a car this old, craps gonna break.

A CRX can be a serious weapon in the right hands with the right parts. Don't listen to the honda-hater hype.

If you want to race your dsm, then you can rest assured that there will be a way to come up with the parts you need. Remember that the nt 1g's pretty much share all their parts short of the rear suspension parts and most of those are easily fabbed out of better parts.

I'm not sure where you're going for parts, but I've never had an issue getting replacement parts from Mitsu for any of my cars. That includes my '90 AWD I sold last year. You need to find a DSM enthusiast in the parts department you work with - or find a different parts department. Get a copy of CAPS and order by part number.

Be careful of parts store parts, as the tolerances and materials are poor. I would not put parts store crap on a race car. I don't put any parts store bits on either of my DSM's. Just my preference.

Also, if you're building a true track car you'll most of the time be replacing stock parts with aftermarket anyway.

Please don't buy a Honda. You will be reliable.......reliably slow that is.

If you need parts, get ahold of JNZ, I'm sure that they'll always have what you want there.
