Guys, I'm trying to trace down this friggen phantom knock problem. I've done anything and everything that I've read to "resolve" the problem and nothing has changed the way the car runs. Per the Haynes manual, the voltage at the ECU harness should be 8-11 volts with the key on engine off. Mine tests out to 5.75 volts. The could obviously pose a problem but what, I don't know. The car will easily show 43 counts of knock (logger) by revving to 2500ish in neutral.
What I've replace or changed to resolve the phantom knock.
New upgraded lifters
New Mitsu knock sensor
Swapped ECU's with known working unit
New plugs, wires
Two different coils
4 gallons of 115 mixed with 94 octane
New fuel filter
Removed ALL accessory belts and started car
Checked fuel pressure (50psi under boost)
I thought the only thing left was to replace the ECU but I guess I could still replace the wiring harness.
I'm lost....
