Well I just recently replaced my: pressure plate, disc, flywheel, slave cylinder, master cylinder, new ss clutch line, throw out bearing, clutch fork, pivot ball, flywheel bolts. The car was driving fine for about 500 miles. Then just yesterday my car would not want to shift, or would need a ton of force, to get into gear as i am driving. If i just turn the car on and shift it's completely random what gears i can go into. I press the clutch and can't go into 1st or 2nd, but can go into 3rd, 4th, & 5th. I let go of the clutch and try again and i can go into 1st and 5th, but not 2nd 3rd or 4th. I go again and same things, different gears go in and different ones won't go in. Weather i am sitting or driving, it will shift out of gear fine, but 85% of the time it won't shift into gear. I'm thinking the rest of the transmission is done, help please

Sounds like something went wrong with your clutch. The the trans is 'blocking' you out of gear, that means the synchro 'blocker' rings are working like they should. Forcing it will ruin them in short time and soon you will be looking for both a clutch and trans. Put the car in 1st gear with the engine off, then start the engine with the clutch pedal to the floor. Does the car move forward? If so, you have a clutch problem.

no, it doesn't move when its in first with the clutch pressed in. Any other ideas as to what it might be?

Huh, that's unusual... I'd probably take a close look at the shifter cables then. It's possible one of the is broken. I had an issue with a customers car awhile back that was really hard to shift because of the cable. It's rare for a cable to do that, but possible I guess...

I forgot to mention that also, when the clutch is pushed all the way in and it won't go into gear, when i let it out about a 1/2 inch, thats when it will start to try an engage. Don't know if that helps out at all or not . I'm in the process of buying a new trans, so if that is the problem, it will be taken care of regardless.

Should have just got the pro's over there @ Jack's to rebuild your trans. My bro has one of there premium fwd transmissions with the lsd and that thing is awesome.

Trust me i would love to have one built FOR me, but in no way do i have money for something like that. I'm struggling as it is, luckily i've found a remanfactured trans for $585 shipped so hopefully i can get my car back sooner than later.

I've had a similar issue one time. The car was very erratic going in and out of various gears, it was no always the same gear. Then one day. BAM! Out of no where the shifter got loose and the car was stuck in 4th gear. I pulled over to find that one of my shifter cable bracket bolts was missing and the other one was so loose to the point that moving the shifter did nothing but wiggle the bracket.

Check your cables. And then check your master cylinder engagement adjustment.

the adjustment isn't the case, i have already checked that. The cable bracket was loose, but the bolts were as tight as could be, do i need a new bracket along with cables to be sure before i go buy a new tranny?

Okay, if it's not the trans I think I might know. A long time ago we had a car come in with the same issue. If you push the clutch pedal all the way to the floor the trans wouldn't shift, but when you went down 3/4 of the way, it did. We found that the clutch pressure plate was over-extending. We moved the adjustment rod back in and it worked perfectly. It is VERY rare to have a DSM with a clutch system that moves too far, (they always never move far enough) but this one did and it locked up the disk in some weird way that it wouldn't shift. Weird stuff...

well i know for a fact that my transmission was going when i got the car as it would grind 1st and 5th about 30% of the time. The car is at my parents house right now, going ovet there today after work to start takin it apart, i will take and post pics and hopefully maybe something wrong can be seen there...

well took it apart, things look ok, counted the spline, 23 teeth, got a quote, gonna be $1500 for a new re-manufactured trans, and that doesn't include the transfer case. Tried driving it again and it will go into any gear, randomly some gears i have to use every ounce of strength in my body to get it in there. Did however notice that the shifter cable bracket is pretty loose, moves about a full inch side to side by hand. Possibly that could be the problem?? I'm hoping its that plus the fact that i have Royal Purple Syncromax in there. After reading a few gear oil threads it seems like that might be way too thin to run in an awd car.

Synchromax is intended for trannies that use auto trans fluid. Like my ranger takes atf. and its a manual. I think you problem is clutch related and shifter bracket related. The other day I noticed my bellhousing bolts backed outOMG to finger tight. and my shifter bracket on the trans was way loose. tightened that up and it was like a new tranny. Shifted good again. Then a couple low 12 track passes and my car wont hardly shift at all. So about 10 min ago I bought a quarter master twin disk to hope fully fix the problem.
