Any of you midwest guys able to make the trip out to Hastings' new road course? It's a NASA event (HPDE/racing) and the Rocky Mountain region has it on the schedule. It would be nice to have another chance to see some of you guys at this event too.

It's only about 2 hours from Mid America so those who are going to MAM can consider the trip hopefully.

Bump.

So who's going? SlowOldPoop and I will be there. I see one other DSM is signed up. Fred Hudson Jr. in a 93 Talon ES. Did you sign up yet Ludachris?

SlowOldPoop and I were hoping to meet some of you guys in the Rocky Mountain region. This event is wicked cheap too! $250 for 2 days of racing!!! That's incredible. The weather looks great too. Then you have all the extra curricular stuff as well; free waterpark, Steak cookout, bonfire parties both nights, etc. etc.

I attempted to get my Stealth ready for an HPDE at this event since it's so cheap, but I need tires and SlowOldPoop's car will probably need all my attention like usual. ROFL

Well I hope to see some more of you guys there this weekend.

p.s. We'll be there around 3pm for the test and tune on Friday.

I put a lot of effort into shifting things around to be able to come, but failed. Oh, well.

I'm going to pick up a buddy's truck/trailer in a couple hours. All I have left to do is change my brake fluid and rear brake lines. Can't wait to meet some of you guys! Bummer Jtoby, it would have been nice to finally meet up with you as well.

jtmcinder:
I know how that goes. I'm still shifting things for this weekend, but luckily they're low priorities. ha ha Well hopefully I can meet you another time.

Ludachris:
Great to hear you're going to make it! I know SlowOldPoop was worried something had happened since we didn't see you signed up yet.

But, we're now a maybe.......
Last night Rich discovered a tranny problem and Brent the master fabricator is working on the car right now. I may be driving up there tonight to work an all-nighter if need be. Cross your fingers for us!

Anyone got a spare transfer case seal?

Ha Ha funny! What one do you need is that really your problem? I have a fresh transfercase...

Dang it!!!! I've been posting in the other section of the forum you put this thread in and no one's been replying! Go figure, you guys are over here. Anyway, how was it?

The SlowOldPoop team had a hard time this weekend. We pulled the tranny twice. Once to replace the cracked tranny and then the next time to fix a loose flywheel. We also discovered we had a weird timing issue. Timing would spike up and down (24-6-18-4-22) under load. It immediately followed a weird spike in the coolant signal, so we ran up to Radio Shack to get some resistors. We set the signal at about 200degrees static, but the timing still jumped up and down. We swapped the PTU with a local owner, but that didn't work either. We looked at the wiring, but gave up after the flywheel came loose again. The car unfortunately never made it onto the track. We're going to try a different flywheel and new bolts. Then figure out the timing issue. We'd like to try another ecu, but it might be hard to find someone who'll lend us their 1G dsmlink ecu.

It was really nice to meet Chris. He's a very cool guy just like on here. His car is nicely modded. I went for a ride with him on the track and he's quite a driver too! He got it sideways and drove out of it like it was nothing....twice. That track is beautiful and I'll have to make it over there next year with my car to run it.

Well that sucks! I am sorry for all the hardships. What flywheel is Rich running? Is this the second time the flywheel bolts came loose? Sorry I can't help out with the ECU with the DSM link... However I might be able to locate a stock one for you..

Okay, sorry for the delay guys....

Hastings is an awesome track! The facilities were pretty nice and the track itself was a blast to drive. Much better than the current tracks we're used to out here in Colorado. The track owner (George) was a great host. I wish I had made it out on the track in his "party bus" - basically a school bus with a huge exhaust stack. I heard he was actually driving that thing pretty spirited.

As for the weekend itself, well it depends on who you talk to... my car had no major problems. I'm thankful for that. But it was running really rich the whole weekend and wasn't all that fun to drive. I had also put in a lighter wastegate spring so I could run lower boost levels while working out some bugs. So 12 lbs. of boost while running rich meant a pretty slow car all weekend. And for some reason I didn't bring a laptop with me to do any tuning. Bonehead move. So basically I wasn't going to be putting down any real fast times for the weekend, which I wasn't planning on anyway being I've never been on that track before. So I got the opportunity to play with tire pressures and different lines on the track. At the end of the first day I was also bitten by 1/4 tank of fuel sputter with fuel sloshing around inside the tank. The car was cutting out pretty bad around turns.

As for Rich, I'll let him give you his update. It wasn't very fun for him. It was a pleasure to finally meet him and I'm glad that even though things didn't go exactly as planned I was able to at least meet him and his awesome pit crew :) All very cool guys. I really wish the car wasn't being sold. And thanks for trying to help out with the tuning Mike.

There was really only one really fast car out there that weekend. The blue S2000, which I believe was driven by John Slinkard. Rich had told me that he's competed against this car in the past and has been very close in terms of lap times, sometimes coming out on top. So it would have been nice to see those two battle it out (and I would have loved to see how my car would have done as well).

I'm actually going to be making a few changes to my setup and will be going out to do some testing in the next few weeks to be ready before the next event. I took a few pics of the car on the trailer but Fred actually got a few pics of my car on the track. Once he gets them to me I'll post them.
