It may be a throwaway... However a solid chromoly flywheel will have consistent thermal expansion and is a very strong. I think the fidanza is a good flywheel however I do think the ACT is better. I am not sure why your machine shop told you it was unmachinable?? Chromoly (unheat treated) is very hard material and would be very hard on his tooling but he should be able to resurface it and put in a proper step.. Negatives is that Chromoly has a lower coefficient of friction...

Now I am curious if ACT heat treats there flywheel.

The car is almost ready to go. The graphics company kind of messed up my graphics. I will need to rework them at a later date... Spare brake pads should be here tomorrow. and I can get down to MAM early crack a beer set up my tent and go watch some drag racing..

Barring any problems, we should arrive at the track about 6pm to drop the car/trailer off. We'll look for you and hopefully pit close to you.

A couple of guys said they'll have a grill and if you bring your own meat, they'll char it for you tonight.

The Mad Brew racing team (spec miatas) is bringing a couple of kegs for the festivities this weekend. The beer is free if you run one of their stickers. Just ask for Eric Meyer and he'll hook you up.

They wouldn't do it. He called it a "throwaway" flywheel. Which tells me the Fidanza would be the better choice with the replaceable inserts.

Why did he call it that? Is it cracked?
My bets are that he doesn't want to mess with a chromoly flywheel or that he is just unwilling to do it because they are stepped flywheels and and he doesn't feel like matching up the step after the resurface. I'd bet that's why. I'd go somewhere else.
Either way, stick with the ACT.

If the machine shop (jack?) tested run out and found it to be warped slightly, I'm not sure the ACT has enough "meat" on it to actually resurface and step.

I've also heard so many good things about the fidanza flywheels in every application from road course mustangs to street civics that they would probably be my choice.

Not to get to far off topic here, but ACT should be fine to resurface, especially the first time.

And that's good that you've had luck with Fidanza flywheels, but I know many people who have had a nightmare of a time with them, myself included on a Corvette. Everyone has their experiences I suppose.

Everytime I read a right up like this, it makes me wonder why DSMs aren't used on the Road Course more often. It sounds like so much more fun then a drag strip.

Yup, these season update/raceday etc threads make me jealous. I want to get out there. My car has been on jackstands for 2 months waiting for a turbo. It finally comes next week.
I'm hoping to at least make a couple autocross' and hopefully a flat out day or two.

But keep away from my car this weekend. Just about the only thing I haven't had problems with is the clutch. In fact, the last time we had it out, you could still read "ACT" on the face.

I think you're safe... The clutch bug jumped over to MY car...

My O2 sensor is suddenly giving me largish negative values (-0.25) and my clutch pedal now just falls to the floor and sticks there... Hopefully I can get that fixed next weekend. At the halfway point of the year now and I only have been able to get ONE event in (Rally back in January)! NO autox, NO rallyx, NO track days... :-( As soon as I fix one thing on the car, 2 more break a couple days later. Argh.

They are used more than posted. However, im still the only one out here in the Mid-Atlantic region except this one random 1g guy.
