So I made the plunge.

Some of you know I used to race on 16x8.5 Kosei K1's running 245/45 race tires. Great setup as it cleared by 12.2" rotors and Wilwood brake setup and give me a damn good amount of rubber. Side wall was a little high but not to bad depending on tire choice.

So along comes a deal that I couldn't pass up. I ended up getting these.

6 of them ( gotta have spares ) with new tires ( 285/30's ). You new england guys might recognize them. So starts the fun task of fitting etc. Just thought I would share. I'll bigger pictures up later.

Nice wheels, I had them on my 91 MR2 a few years ago. :thumb:

Holy crap - 10.5" wide? And who is Sean Caron anyway? That name sounds familiar... didn't we have a regular around here who went by that name a while ago?

:D

:p :D

Hey Sean, can't wait to see what they look like on your car :thumb:

Neither can I. I have a spare set of front fenders to play around with as these things will need some flare action going on. The old setup was 40mm slimmer and it JUST tucked in the front. This one is about the same offset but wider. Flares are next on the list.

Those must be Marc Berte's old rims. Are the tires you are talking about the tires he had for the rims as well? If so, that will be a very nice setup, that will finally be taken advantage of.

That looks really, really, really wide. I want to see what they look like on your car.

what type of tires are you going with (hell, who makes 285/30/18, good luck with that)

I just want you to know, that Sean has developed a habit of fondling these wheels every free chance he gets. It's sickening. :)

285/30/18 is a standard size for R-compounds. Several national-level DSMs have been running these for a while, including ACM (aka Charles Moss) in ESP. One of the more amazing things about Sean's run of trophies at national events in 2005 was the fact that he was "still" on 245s. On 285s, he will be an even more serious threat.

One or two or three question, Sean: Any fitment issues with the +15 offset? Hoosiers or V710s? 2.5" or 2.25" springs?

Yeah I was on 245/45/16's that were dead. They already had 3/4 of a season on them.

Just finished mocking the fit. No fitment issues on the +15 offset more than what I already expected. Remember that my 16x8.5's Kosei's were +17mm offset and the **just** tucked. With these, flaring of the fronts is mandatory. Rears shouldn't be an issue as they never quite get as compressed as the fronts but I will flare the rears as well.

Eventually they will be running V710s. Right they have V700 ECSTAS on them. They are **very** close to the uprights AND very close to the lower spring perch. I have less than 5mm clearance between all the components including tires.

Pictures below. Ignore how dirty and how high the front is. There is no engine and its been in a garage for going on 12 months now.

It almost looks like a skateboard with the wheel sticking out like that. j/k Once you get some flares on there it should look real mean. :thumb:

I love the rear shot. Not just for the plate, but for the "I'm not going to have issues at Devens again" exhaust.

Ho- ly Crap. I think you just stole that slogan from the Pontiac Grand Prix commercials.

In kinda asian voice:

"Widah eez Bettah..."
