I am trying to decide between a fp 3065 and a gt3582r and obviously if i go with the garrett turbo ill need to change the exhaust manifold. I am not sure who makes a good manifld for the 35r and how much it will cost so i guess my question is, who makes a t3 manifold that can handle being street driven with a gt35?

does the t3 flange or dsm flange flow better for power?

The DSM-flanged FP30 housing is roughly .70A/R which is midway btw a T3 .63 and .82. You will get better top end power with a larger A/R housing, so if you wanted to eeek out the most power from your GT3540/GT3040, a .82 A/R T3 would be your best option.

Then again, most people that buy this sized turbo would rather have quick spool and sacrifice some top end power which is where a .63A/R would be the better option.

The FP30 gives the best of both while at the same time a slight compromise to both :dsm:

You can also get a 35R in a PTE bolt-on housing.

But I don't see the point of getting a turbo of that size and having a restrictive mitsu housing. Besides the fact its an affordable option that has been proven to work. It took Ron Shearer to convince me I needed a T3 instead of a mitsu housing, I respected his insight and went with it and never looked back.

If you go with a turbonetics or turbostyle manifold you are going to need a spacer and there long stud hardware kit if you go with a 4 bolt housing becuase of clearance on the block. But you will never have a problem with one cracking and you get to experience the power bulge

Based on personal experience:

-Full-race - quality at a price
-dnperformance - not too shabby, hit or miss on quality though
-sls - made several manifolds for me that i am super happy with. great product at a fair price.
-shearer - have not worked with personally but have installed and seen them. sheer beauty. again at a price, worth it yes.

Although the mitsu hotside is smaller than a t3 ive seen cars rocking the fp3065 and 3565 putting down well over 500whp, i dont think its too restrictive, of course im talkin about just the fp mitsu hotside, theres a lot of garbage mitsu hotsides out there.....

I have the Turbonetics cast T3 manifold and a SC6152, .82 hotside... S Cover. Over a inch clearance between the compressor cover and the water pipe. LOT's of room, more then my SCM5031 and the 2G manifold...
No Spacer:

I am also selling a T3 cast manifold... have a look:

Oh yha, I will never go back to a bolt on housing, you are missing out on the top end.

Doesn't that come with the 5-bolt PTE housing? :dsm:

Mine is a little differeant then the on you linked to but it does come with the 5 bolt exhaust housing like pictured. Mine was a custom built creation put togather by AGP... somewhat of a strange creature I guess. I really like the .82 hotside and would reccomend it, the top end dosent give up. Just a FYI for anyone doind a custom downpipe on one of these 5 bolt housings, it is a tight fit. You need to kind of offset the 3" pipe on the flange when you weld it on and the grind the welds a little so you have barley enough room for the bolts.

I have a turbonetics Cast t3 with a 35R .63 A/R and trapped 128mph in a 30mph headwind last weekend @ 29 psi stock shortblock 6 bolt... cant get any more basic than that... This is a 5 bolt housing too...

Dont know if you would go this was but just a thought.
AMS sells an adapter fitting to fit a GT35R turbo to a stock manifold.
Its just a plate that bolts inbetween the turbo and the manifold.
So you can have the T3 houseing on the turbo and have it bolt up to the manifold you have now.
The plate is around $100 or so.

It really doesn't matter if you do Mitsu housing or T3 because the 35r is the largest BB turbo before a pure T4 housing is needed. I know some people will say 37R but it's not a true Garrett turbo that can be bought through any source. The 37R is a mixture of turbos that just happen to work well but it comes at quite a hefty price. The 37R can be used in T3 for or T4 form. I know this for a fact because Devotuning did an Evo and changed the T3 housing for the T4 due to the owner of the car wanting to go 42R later. My point is this, There will be no more upgrade for you in either direction, mitsu or garrett, without a T4.

I could not agree less! It will matter, a bolt on housing will 'choke' out in high rpms, a bolt on housing will more likley to surge. A larger hotside (.63 or .82 T3 would be larger then a bolt on) will make more power, significantly more in higher rpms. Is has nothing to do with what the next step is...

I've done alot of research on the GT35R and if looking at the pure WHP numbers on boost alone, the Mitsu-based PTE at 30psi works out to ~500WHP (DSM Motorsports racecar), a .63 A/R Garrett ~550-600WHP (too many people to list), a .82 Garrett 550-650.

The most I've heard out of a T3-based GT35R (on boost alone) is Keith Laforte's 680WHP in a .82 A/R at 30+ psi OMG

So yes, hot side does matter w.r.t. WHP :dsm:

Where are you getting that ERL manifold? I've seen it posted a few times but no one has posted a good source for it.

Also some input on the T3 deal. A friend of mine has a 3065 on his 2g and he made close to 500whp, and had trapped 131mph. Another friend of mine has a .86 T3 35r and was trapping in the 135 range. Those FP housings do a damn good job on making power, but the T3 housings can always just squeeze out a tad more. I'd say go T3 and never look back as stated by a few people before.

Just playing devil's advocate here -

The mitsu housings may not be ideal for power and power curve but they do allow people in states that require a visual emissions inspection (like California) to run an internal wastegate and keep a more stock-appearing setup so that they can get tested and pass. That was a big part of my decision back when I bought my old SCM6152E. I knew I might not be getting the most power with that configuration but it was necessary for me unless I wanted to swap my turbo every 2 years for emissions testing. And believe me, they won't even test you if your car looks like it has aftermarket parts bolted on under the hood. I know this doesn't apply to the majority but it's something to keep in mind when making recommendations.

I'm sure happy I don't live in Cali anymore :)
