O, Florida
I really need to change my antifreeze, but I don't how many bottles of antifreeze will I need to buy to fill it up.

just one......

also since your in florida, you probably won't need to use a complete 50/50 mixture between antifreeze and water...maybe more like 35-40 antifreeze/55-60 water....and if you want to help with cooling add some redline water wetter.

Any autozone store should sell it, be sure to burp your system and let your heater run when you change your antifreeze. Burping is easy just leave your cap off and let your car idle for about ten minutes and fill up as necesary or until there are no bubbles.

yeah you should be able to find the water wetter at any place that carry's redline motor oil, so if autozone and such doens't have it check nappa or carquest.

you might also take this time to use some coolant cleaner...and run it in the coolant system while your changing everything...not nesscary but you might as well get it out of the way all at once.

It's about a 2-gallon system, so one bottle of pre-mixed Preston and a gallon jug of distilled water will do you. Put in the Prestone first, and finish with the water.

Is it really? I always thought it was 1 gallon?

Just fill er' up until she tops off. Any excess with be dumped through the drainage tube. Not only that, but you should add some Water Wetter in there also. Any leftover coolant should be stored away for future use. Simple as that.

I though water wetter was supposed to be mixed with water only, no coolant is needed.

Well, it could probably be used either way, but on the bottle I'm pretty sure it says for best results mix with water only.

It still works with coolant....it just works even better with the less amount of coolant, because chances are if your using a lot of coolant (50/50 mix) your more worried about pipes freezing then over heating.

Whenever I drain my system, I just dump a bottle of watter wetter in there with about 40% coolant and the rest water

Do you guys have any proof that more anti-freeze = better cooling abilities? When I was om technical school for auto tech my teacher told us that a 50/50 mix was optimal. He said that 60/40 water/anti-freeze would not have the same cooling abilities as a 50/50 mix because they work together. Any truth to this?

Just put it in the coolant and it'll be fine. You can mix water wtter with coolant. We've been using it in the race bikes for almost a decade now.

sorry for bringing this up again... but would it matter what radiator you have?? i have ordered an aluminum one.. just want to know what i should add...

oh.. ok thank you.. just wondering.... thanks .. i will either use water wetter or royal purple..

wow.. thats pretty interesting.... so ill just put water and water wetter or royal purple..
