It was an undisclosed fuel additive that he was hit for. Thats all NASCAR released.

Jet fuel doesnt even make sence to me, its the same thing as kero, diesel, and heating oil isnt it? Thats what i heard it was too, but it doesnt make any sence.

Some kind of gelatinous heat-activated octane booster.

Some kind of gelatinous heat-activated octane booster.

Last night on Speed they were talking about it and said it was a gel like substance placed in the runners of the intake manifold...it mixed with the air and fuel thus creating a higher octane..and it was not jet fuel or anything placed directly in the fuel cell

I say if they come up with crazy stuff like this, let em run it,LOL.I remeber hearing about the roll cage being used as an extra fuel tank,in-car adjustable spoiler,in-car adjustable lowering kits, boring out the restrictor plates, bigger carbs,etc..they do some crazy stuff people dont think about.

The only rules that a racing organization should have are safety rules.

Hydrazine.

You should read "Stroke Ace". Nevermind the movie with the superdelicious Loni Anderson, the book's about all the inside stuff in NASCAR.

Smokey Yunick was accused of having extra gas, so he drained the tank dry and had tech go over it.
When they got done, he got in, started it up, and drove back to his pits.

If you aren't breaking the rules, you just aren't American.

I don't really call what kenseth and evernhams team did "cheating". They found something that worked in a wind tunnel and it wasn't really in the rules to you Can't do it. But what johnsons team did with the back window and what harvick did last year with the fuel cell, THAT is cheating. Granted the perfect way to penalize harvick would have been to make them leave it "as is" and that would force him to pit right away.

Ive never been a nascar fan and I never knew all of this stuff went on. Makes it a little more interesting now.

After reading that gas tank bit ,I decided to read up on this Smokey Yunick guy, and all I can say is wow, hes pretty legendary.

Henry "Smokey" Yunick http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smokey_Yunick

"Perhaps his most famous exploit was his #13 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle, driven by Curtis Turner. The car was so much faster than the competition during testing that they were certain that cheating was involved; some sort of aerodynamic enhancement was strongly suspected, but the car's profile seemed to be entirely stock, as the rules required. It was eventually discovered that what Yunick had built was an exact 7/8 scale replica of the production car. Since then, NASCAR has required each race car's roof, hood, and trunk to fit templates representing the production car's exact profile" OMG

I wish this guy was my dad.

i heard they got him for this,

but they didnt do anything to gordon when they found his car 1 inch lower than normal. oh something was wrong with the shock and caused it to be lower...in other words nascar saw that as "unintentional"...my a$$

...And he works for the Police Department people:rocks:

Wait, how could you call goin in circles for hours at a time BORING...? I mean HELL...you go in CIRCLES! You've seen one you've seen them all, they're CIRCLES!!!!!!!!

I'm here at the Daytona 500 and I had an ezclusive dinner with the owner, crew chiefs and drivers of Robert Yates Racing last night... only about 25 people there.
I got to personally talk to Doug Yates who is the head engine builder for all the Ford engines in Nascar. He confirmed the gel was like sterno, but different. The fuel jets in the carb were a lot larger too. He said he did dyno testing over the winter with the substance and said he found no improvements in power. He was unsure why Michael did it, he could only think that Michael did find gains from it.
There that's straight from the horses mouth. :)

aint about circles, its about following a driver through the whole race and seeing where he is good at and where he isnt.

ill tell you a story of how i got into Nascar. About the time i was 14 i started dating this chick whos family was all into Nascar, living room full of nascar stuff. I never understood it, my living room is full of 49ers stuff cause until then that was the only sport i watched. I came to her house one sunday afternoon, unkown to me at the time sunday was nascar day and not a good day to makeout with the daughter. they let me inside and she brought me to the living room where everyone is watching the race. her uncle looks at me and goes "boy, whos your favorite driver?" and i go "none, this stuff is too boring for me to watch bunch of cars go in circles for 4 hours". he says "son, time to teach you a lesson. Sit down over here. now listen, give me 4 hours of your life, and i will make a nascar fan out of you yet". since i was a sucker and had a crush on the girl and was gonna do whatever it took to get in her pants, i sat down. "Boy, now pick any of these drivers you see on the screen", so i took a gander and picked one "Man, you see that, city boy picked Jeff Gordon!" and the room erupted in laughter, unbeknownst to me jeff gordon is a ###, a dam good driver, but considered a fairy in the sport. i guess speaking proper english is frowned upon. "well let it slide for the time being, for educational purposes. Now, i want you to watch that one driver through the whole race, no other driver matters, just watch that car like this guy is your idol, just dont turn queer on me boy." i watched that whole race, i watched him come from far behind, while everyone else was booing, the driver i picked was winning, he came up from 30th all the way to take the win. He won the Daytona 500 that day, i was exstatic, everyone else was pissed. Uncle looks at me and goes "Beginners luck, so tell me boy, gonna be back next week?"

ive been a nascar fan since then, and Jeff Gordon is still one of my favorite drivers, along with Dale Jr and Tony Stewart. so go ahead, pick a driver and follow them from the start, youd be suprised how fast 4 hours of cars going in circles goes by, especially with a beer and some tater chips. since then, i havent watched a full game of football, not even the superbowl. somehow sports that require one ball just arent what they used to be.

I think its like any sport -- if you dont care who wins -- of course its boring.

its like watching drag racing... watching drag racing is boring... now don't get me wrong I love drag racing, but I don't like watchng it. Well unless your friends are there racing then its fun watching them and maybe making fun of them.

Moral of my story, racing most of the time isnt that fun to watch. Its fun to do, i.e. volley ball and such, bowling. So I can't watch people turning left for 4 hrs even if i watch one guy do it, he is still going in a left circle for 4 hours.

But that is kinda cool about the story and all. I think they should have rules about safety but I think they should be able to do what they want in terms of HP within a certain guideline. I think Nascar is way too generic. But I guess they want to make the race about the driver and not the car.

BUT I will remind you that technology advancement comes from us doing crazy new things. Or there would be no Shep or Buschur or Rau. I mean these guys revolutionalized the sport of drag racing, before DSMs only ran high 10s and now look where these guys have brought it. So I believe they should unleash these guys and build better cars.
