ive been savin up for a while and i fanally have the money to buy a new car,its either gonna be a 99 GSX or a 2004 EVO 8, what do u guys think i should buy?thanx

I'd go with the Evo 8, or save up a little longer and shoot for a 9. Much better handling, less to re-engineer if you intend to drive it aggressively, and the ability to carry four people without crushing the rear riders' legs into paste. Only real down side is the price.

I'd agree...Even though you'd have to leave us....EVO 8... honestly I like the GSX's interior styling a TON more yet, the exterior styling of the EVO just melts my heart. I love the 4 doors and I love the engine. The fact that its a revised 4g63 is great, I havn't kept up with their forums or anything about them, do they have any crank related issues?
Just curious to know if they've changed their oil squirter design or anything along the lines...

All in all it's really up to you what you want to do.

If you're looking to put a lot of wrench time in and have it as some sort of a project car, the GSX would be perfect. You'll know the complete in's and out's of your engine, what's new and what isn't, ect.

On the other hand, if you're looking for a go fast car out of the box, the Evo's definetly the way to go. As someone else said, you actually have a rear seat, as opposed to the optical illusion of one the Eclispe presents. Not to mention the better handling, power, upgrades, ect thats avalible for the Evo.

I would personally get the evo... More convienent, backseat, reliability (maybe), warranty, etc...

def go with the evo, every aspect of the evo performance is higher than the gsx my buddy willy has one and from first hand driving, they're incredible, downside is just the price tag, but its worth it if your willing

I would go with the GSX and spend the extra money you have left over on it....build it up and make it waste stock evos.............. but yes i agree if you want handeling/passenger space go with the EVO

Id go with the evo, leave it stock. It will be fast and be under warranty still. Or like someone else said buy a cheap gsx 5,000 to 10,000 then dump 20,000 and have a 8 second gsx. Id prefer a reliable car unless your looking for an all out track car.

I've had an 04 STi and an 06 Evo 9 MR. Sold one for the other. Then sold the Evo and now have a Talon. Evo is a great car. Looks cool, handles great. Evo 9s can make big power and the engine internals are good for 500 whp (still need head bolts, cams and springs though). 370 whp is possible with the stock turbo even. However, it all came down to money and the undesire of modifying a brand new $33,000 car in fears of blowing it up and/or losing warranty. So DSM for me, haha.

Why would you dump a shit load of money(10K-20K)into a GSX. The resell value wouldnt go up very much and once you start making big power, you have more chances of things going wrong.

Definately go evo if you have the money. Keep it stock until the warrenty is up, and you can also save some money during this time, then when the warrenty ends, put a few thousand in it and call it good.

My $ .02

The only thing I hate about EVOs are the insurance rates.

If you want a nicer really fast car out the box, get an evo. If you want something you can mod yourself that may give you some problems but could be a monster go with the gsx.

well i cant speak for anyone else but this is a hobby to me. I love to work on my car and i could care less about the resell value.
So if it was me i'd definantly use the extra money to mod a dsm. Buying something new with the intent of moding it isnt really something id choose (unless i was filty rich). Id buy a new car for the warranty and keep it stock.

thanx guys i appreciate tha input, but if i went with the evo,in time id definitely get a gsx...thanx

Dont forget insurance, cost of parts, cost of body parts, and risk of the car being stolen and broken in to. If you live in a bad town then I would not own a evo. Unless alarmed and kept in a garage. You have to factor in alot when buying a car.

Yeah i would probably pick the evo too, but at the same time their is a sense of accomplishment and pride hwen your ride you built smoke some stock evo or muscle car. That feeling is hard to get from an evo.

Evo 9 drives, handles great, and it pulls hard. Not to mention the factory warranty. He will pay around 30-32 for an Evo 9 Se he won't be paying that much for a 04 Evo 8. If you want a more dependable car with a warranty get the Evo. If you plan on dropping 30k just get the Evo9. It has mivec and a larger hotside on the turbo. If you get the Gsx expect some problems, possible rust, or mods the previous owner did that you absolutely hate, including harder to fix "mods", and make sure to do a carfax report or something to make sure car hasn't been wrecked. 2g's look amazing and can be a fast fun car, but for a new fast warranty backed car why turn the evo down ?(if money isn't an issue)
Another thing i don't think anyone buys their dsm with intent to resell and actually come out ahead. If you made the money you still wouldn't get your time or bloody knuckles back LOL. Good luck with your decision.

I would go with the Evo. My cousin has one and I wish I could afford to get one myself. The diference between an Evo and a DSM is like night and day.

Becuase I live in Canada and we can't buy them. Id say EVO all the way. I love them to death. Im almost tempted to move to the US to own one.
But a 500whp gsx would be pretty nice too

yea it also depends if you want more then one other person in the car with you....would u like to have a uberfast gsx that you can scare the pants off one of your buddies or a styll very quick evo that you can scare the crap outta 3 or 4 of your buddies at the same time? LOL either way ...you win :dsm:
