I have a 96 talon TSI AWD, today, I got the car inspected and when I went to leave, the car would not go into any of the gears with the clutch pressed all the way to the floor. No matter how hard you try, it will not go into gear, or even grind. Before this, the clutch has worked perfect, never slipped, and never had any problems with hard shifting. If I turn the car off, it will go into every gear easily. If I put it in gear then start the car, you car feel that the car wants to move. Also, when you let out the clutch, the car moves right away when only moving the clutch less than a 1/4 inch. Also when the car is running any you try to put it in gear, you can feel the car move slightly. Good news is it passed inspection, bad news is now I cant get it into gear. I had to put it in secong gear with the car off, start the car, and then drive all the way home in second gear. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

These clutch master cylinders are famous for leaking down the firewall inside your car and leaving your resevoir empty. Check to see that you have a fluid in your master cylinder and that you have no clutch fluid under your floor mats.

I checked that already, no fluid leaking anywhere, and the reservoir is full of fluid.

i had a similar problem. I adjusted the bolt on the rod going into the cylinder. Turn it i believe clockwise, so that u get more pressure on the pedal. should allow u to get pressure on the clutch to put it in gear.

I adjusted the clutch, still no difference. I just dont understand how this would happen without any symptoms. The clutch does not come up as quickly as before. When the car is running, and the clutch is pushed down, the trans will not go into any gear no matter how hard you try, it will not even grind. I dont know what the problem is, its just annoying the hell out of me.

I am assuming that prior to the inspection, the car was going into gear fine while started. I find it hard to believe that something on the car would just coincidentally go wrong so quickly...would it be far fetched to wonder if the inspection guys might have done something they shouldn't have? I would contact them and ask them about everything they may have touched or changed (purposefully or accidentally) and see if I could link any of it back to what's going on with your tranny/gearbox.

what kind of clutch are you running? I ask because last year at MIR my buddy melted his cm stage3 to the flywheel and had teh same simptoms as you describe.

On a side note, his story of driving teh car home is hilarious. everytime he stopped he had to turn the car off and bump start it to get moving, good stuff.

Same here, car was driving fine stopped for a hole in the pavement, then it won't go into gear. I thught it was the clutch since I never inspected after buying the car. So I pull out the tranny (it was asking me already for new synchros), clutch was like new but the tob was busted, so I changed synchros, clutch, TOB, PP, master and slave, put everithing back bled the system like 400 times, adjusted the rod on the pedal, still has the same problem. I'm thinking a bent clutch fork, still has air on the line, CW :( or it just mad at me. Any help!?

The clutch is an ACT 2100, I took the car to a local repair shop and they are going to pull the trans and see what is going on with the clutch. I would do it myself but i dont have the time, or a garage and its to cold out. Does anybody have any recomendations on a clutch, seeing the trans is coming out, I am going to have a new clutch put in. Also does anybody know where I can get a clutch fast, I need it ASAP. Thanks for all of the help, I will let you know whats going on when the trans comes out tomorrow.

Well, I just ordered an ACT 2600 clutch kit. I curently have a ACT 2100 clutch installed on the car. Do I need to have the flywheel resurfaced? Also what are your opinions on the ACT 2600? I will let you know what went wrong with the old clutch tomorrow afternoon when the clutch is out of the car. Thanks in advance.
