What do think about this budget setup?this is to add on to whats already in my profile

modified stock sidemount/supra sidemount (if i can find one)
alchy/water injection(absolute must since i cant afford a fmic)
2g throttle body elbow
ported 2g mani
ported turbo and ported 2g o2 housing

as far a fuel if you look in my profile i have pretty much everthing except lines. and the chipped ecu has extending timing and fuel maps and a 11:1 afr map. i was going to try and run as much as i can with the current turbo(i might actually have a 16g in there )

I just recently jump in a friends car with a 16g at 20 psi and a decent tune and it didn't feel that much faster than mine and i have a bad clutch!
andy told me to pull of my intake and look to see if i have a twin blade compressor(16g variant). let me know what you guys think. My friend is going to let me use his logger so ill just turn it up the most i can boost wise before getting knock.

As a side note is there anyway to shim the wastegate actuator on the 14b to hold higher boost? (i think maybe i should've started another thread about that) any opinions would be helpfull...like things i am missing!

Check if you have a 16g, is slightly bigger than the 14b (depending on what 16g we are talking about) it has dual blades though. Yes you can shim the wastegate, i did it, and it held 15 psi up to redline (16g). Try at least to get an safc to compensate and to tune a little bit better, as well as a logger to check knock and fuel trims. the safc can tune fine until 650CC injectors. About the front mount, i would personally hold it, until you feel some power with minor mods. :thumb:

Yes, in the ECU since its chipped. Thats the AFR (air fuel ratio) and its being compensated by the chip. The safc is not necessary but it would give you a better tune.

www.dsmchips.com

Even the guy who sells them says that it works better with an safc.

the ecu is a burned chip to compensate for the 650s and the 2 g mas, it has a code written in it to basicly doulble the tables for fuel and timing and is set for 11:1 afr under WOT. so im pretty sure as along as i dont have any boost leaks and exauhst leaks ill be fine. like someone said earlier all i have to do is tune with boost, fuel pressure and a logger....but ill be borrowing a friends logger for now.

it would be great if i have ANY 16g variant, and exactly how do shim the wastegate??? any info would be great! i know we dont bench race here but at 20-21 psi(yeah i know the 14b wont hold it but peaking to that boost level and droping off is ok for me) with meth injection i should see some pretty good power!

O well, you do whatever you think is better for your car. As far as for the shims, you need to put them between the wastegate and the screws. Been there, done that. :thumb:

Im still confused how you think the SAFC would give a better tune. Only reason he would need one is if he ran race fuel and needed to lean the mixture out. All the tuning has been done in the ECU. Its 10 times better than a SAFC.

this is straight from www.dsmchips.com

Do I have to use an AFC with my chip?
Generally, yes. Although the changes I make to the Global Fuel and MAS Compensation get VERY close, and make it easier to tune, it is still recommended that you have some tunability, such as an Air-Fuel computer or a GOOD adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator. In addition, every car is different, so you may require more/less fuel depending on your situation

Every car is different.

i agree with the above post as andy has a setup that completly outclasses mine(stroker,50trim, etc) and he only has a chipped ecu...atleast i think so anyway.
as far as fpr i have a SX afpr so yeah i think im okay with the logger for now until i can shell out $$$ for dsmlink. andy any thoughts??

I just went into that link and read that you can get a eprom ecu socketed with tehre stage 3 chip for only 550. is that a good deal? Also is it hard to take out your ecu and put one in? is it possible to mess something up bad.

What exactly will the stage 3 chip do without adding any of there other stuff? I didnt really understand all of it.

You can have anything custom put on the chip. You can have injector compensation up to what ever size injector. Raised rev limiter, stutter box for those lovely launch's, extended and custom fuel maps along with custom timing maps, knock sensor feature for stock boost gauge, CEL flash as a shift light. All kinds of things.

Thanks for pointing me here Jason.

Jeff's statement about retaining an AFC applies to his base compensation chips which maintain stock A/F and stock timing ratios. If you choose a custom tune, the AFC is no longer necessary. Even on a race gas tune it's more prudent to have a secondary chip burned and swap it out.

Where people make a mistake is in getting way too aggressive on pump gas with respect to timing. Compressor efficiency is a big deal as is the ability to maintain a cool intake charge so I always go a bit more aggressive on the A/F and more conservative on the timing and look at the setup as a whole before making recommendations.

On my stock 2.0 I was able to run 24-26 psi daily on a shimmed wastegate (I used washers to shim it) with an 11.5:1 A/F map on stock timing (16 degrees) on 93 octane with around 2-3 counts of knock. On stock cams it held solid boost to redline without an issue but your mileage may vary. Smaller turbos are slightly difficult to tune since the potential for running out of boost efficiency happens more quickly and all the turbo makes is hot air. There needs to be a balance between boost and timing in that regard to get the most from the setup. On a medium to larger sized turbo the process is easier since you can pull timing (to a certain point) and keep adding boost while still being efficient.

As always, I can be contacted via PM to personally spec a chip which can then be passed on to Jeff for burning.

Cheers,

Andy
