Where is a good spot for the sending unit?

You got it, tee it off the cooler line. It's a pretty basic install. Before the cooler is best, because you'll know the internal tranny temps.
 
I put this on my car. Its a permacool oil filter remote mount that has a 1/8" npt on the top for a temp sending unit. Its a nice way of increasing atf capacity along with filtration.
The best part was that its only a little under $30 shipped from summitracing. It has a 3/4" 16 threads so when you buy your oem oil filter for your cars engine also buy an oem oil filter for the 95-99 420a eclipse gs/talon es.

Thanks guys, Ive been accumulating parts for my car in excitement for spring to come. I just cant wait to have my car again and be able to drive it. Plus I have been busy with starting a business with my cousins. We are going to be manufacturing performance parts. We have currently designed one hell of a nice o2 housing. Not a cheap POS either, something that will withstand the pressures of the DSM. We have been designing parts through CAD like crazy, not just DSM, but a huge variety. Hoping to make tubular manifolds, intercoolers with aluminum piping, etc. When we get an o2 housing done, ill make sure to post a topic about them. Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it.
 
So whats IPT's guage sender block all about? Is that some how better than T'ing into the cooler line?

Well it looks like i have another problem. I was going to do the mod the other day and my dad came down to the shop. Asked what i was doing and i told him. His response, "hell no, do that shit right and dont ghetto rig it." Now first, Im surprised my dad just said "ghetto." Second, he has a point that the fluid would be starting to cool off as soon as it gets in to the lines. He thinks i should tap the pan like the instructions say. What do some of you guys think.

First of all, tap your pan and it will leak. Secondly the idea is not to know exactly what temperature it is, although putting it as reasonably close to the feed line will give you this reading, it is to establish what is and what is not normal. When I called and asked IPT where I should be putting my guage temp sender I was told to put it as close to the feed line AFTER the trans cooler. The idea is that I want to know how hot the fluid is going into my trans. Once youve heat soaked your cooler and you can't supply cool fluid to your trans this will register on your guage and let you know you need to give that bi*** a rest. Tell your dad this is from one of the most revered DSM trans builders and he is wrong, and then you-1/dad-0 :p
 
Hi, I have a 96 GSX auto with basic mods, I was wondering if anyone else here who's automatic has a transmission temperature gauge. If so, how useful is it. Would it be better just to not get one and let the car cool down after brake boosting for a run, or is it better to be safe and get the gauge and know what temp it is operating at... Thanks

After I run my car at the track, I'll let it idle in neutral for about 2 mins to cool the turbo and the trans fluid, before shutting it down. Two years, and so far so good.... I don't run a trans temp gauge yet but I did plumb in the fitting for a quick install when I feel it's time to install one.
 
YES, I would. It is always good to know vital fluid temps. For an Auto Tranny the cooler it runs the better!!!! Make sure you have a good aftermarket trans cooler. Like any found on IPT's Website..
 
Also, as I said, Im nearly stock right now except for n1 exhuast, IC pipes, air filter and intake, and bov...When would I start needing to think about the transmission cooler? I would assume when I upgrade the torque converter? Thanks...
 
your car should have a stock cooler that is in front of the rad. a trans temp guage is not necessary as long as yer not brake torquing all the time. but you should do other more necessary mods to your tranny. ie: end clutches, shift kit, BETTER tranny cooler.
 
Cool. And what about the A/T boost controller? Any good? What would be the best order to do all the transmission mods in? I was thinking:

A/T boost controller
Shift Kit
Maybe end clutches
torque converter

Any input?

FIRST!!!!!
Clean out the fins on the stock A/T cooler, it could be located in front of your rad and AC condenser if you have AC. Or it could be in the drivers side wheel well. Compressed air or a good garden hose will do..
Shift Kit!
End Clutches (no maybe! DO IT!!)
Trans fluid flush. Power flush its worth the extra money.
Torque converter (re stall your stock one 3800-4000rpm range)
A/T Boost controller (I don't have this yet but it's planned for in 07)

Save the boost controller for later. Your trans needs the upgraded shift kit and end clutches to take advantage of the boost controller.

Now, I'd be interested to know more about the end clutches. I'm preparing for a TCUGO installation and trying to get the supporting mods for my ATX. End clutches was one of the supporting mods mentioned.
