You'd have a hard time getting the EVO brakes to fit without changing the entire knuckle.

As far as big brakes go, there are a few kits out there, Baer, TCE, etc. Heres a page for you too look at:http://www.tceperformanceproducts.com/cgi-bin/brakes/cginews.pl?record=14

I am partial to their kits since I have the Road Race Front 13.0 x 1.10 with FSL caliper on my car currently.

Goddamn does no one search this has been talked about sixty times. Simple Answer: People workng on it, dont know when, dont ask when they will be done, if your impatient go find others.

The rear EVO brakes are a direct bolt in, I promise, I have a set :)

The front's I have no idea, but as said, you have have several options. As said, search.

They use the exact same knuckle and ebrake assy. All you need to do is swap out the rotor (the dust shield needs to be worked over) and bolt the caliper on.

I mentioned in the last "evo brakes on my DSM" thread that I might be doing the swap soon. Well I've acquired the calipers, all I need now is some money to have adapters built, rotors, pads, lines, maybe master cyl, etc. I haven't talked to TCE about it yet but I'm hoping to do so pretty soon.

I'll offer up this much.

I have what I think is the front EVO caliper and rotor (he sent it, not me) in the shop for a customer who wanted brackets made. They aren't going to fit. The bolt centers, radial height, and offsets are nowhere near that of the 2G. Aside from this the body overhang past the friction surface is just under two inches. Huge. If that doesn't mean anything to you just figure you'll need maybe a 1" wheel spacer....see the wheel fit page on TCE site to compare how this is to one of my kits.

The question of "can it work" has of course come up. Sure, one of two ways;

1. The caliper is clocked in a manner to allow the holes to be offset. This will require a modest amount of grinding on the caliper body also to clear the mounts. Still have that little issue of caliper overhang however....

2. The caliper is pulled out on a radius to clear the mounts so the adapter plate can be fit- this means new two piece rotors at about 13.5" are needed. Here you might consider the hat offset change also to reduce the caliper overhang.

So far if this is the rage it's just not what I'd say is the smart choice.

DevoTuning has the part numbers for the Galant nuckle that will match the Evo caliper and bolt up to the 2g. There are people who have said that it was not a Galant that was available in the U.S. but Adam says there is a part number available from any dealer. Devo also has alot of used Brembo calipers from wrecked Evos so if you want a conversion contact them. (847)219-0029.

bah! There goes all my hopes and dreams!

I was all stoked about it because I got all the calipers free. I figured even if it cost me $1500 to make them fit, it would still be less than a Stoptech kit and I'd have upgraded rear brakes too.

Buuuuut I trust your word Todd, if it really isn't a smart thing to do then I guess I'll forget about it.

There is a guy on dsmtalk that you can get the jdm vr-4 knuckles from for only 400 shipped, so do that. And they do fit. ID rather get a evo set for 800 including rear upgraded calipers and paying 400 bucks for those knuckles then giving away 1200-2000 dollars for a kit just for the front.

The only other cheap alternative are baer calipers which are an inferior caliper.

so what your saying is to use all four calipers from an evo all we have to do is swap out all four knuckles on a 2g? right? would clearance issuse arise if it awd or fwd? also the knuckles must be jdm right? do we know what year galant vr4 they are from?

sorry just trying to get things straight in my head I have read this four times and am still comfussed.

chris

Only the front knuckles are needed. The rear bolt right up with the use of the Evo rotors. Where did it say the Galant was a VR4? The "world" Galant was any trim level.

It has to be a later galant, it has to be a JDM galant vr-4 too.

Slow99x, your really starting to get on my nerves, I called up the guys that you said would fit, and cross-referenced numbers and the ones you are talking about fit brembo calipers, but DO NOT FIT a 2g suspension. So they will not work. Has to be the JDM Galant VR-4 front knuckles with ABS sensors.

Sorry man. I got the info from what I thought to be a VERY reliable source. Devo Tuning has a close relationship with TAD Motorsports ( a rally shop). TAD gets many parts from New Zeland and Japan due to RalliART parts not being available here. They have parts catalogs for all kinds of JDM and EDM Mitsubishi cars. I'll look into it further of what they pulled up for these part numbers and why they thought it would work on a 2g. I'll keep you posted.

You need two JDM galant knuckles and 2 ABS sensors, if you have ABS sensor. That's it.

mitsu arent you doing it for like 500 shipped or something like that, thats not tooooo bad, I picked up my calipers/rotors/pads for 400 so thats still 3-400 less than those regular kits.
