The car will have 3" ic pipe and a 3.5" maf in blow through fashion.
I'm sure for most builds the q45tb is overkill :)
It was just cheaper than a mustang unit and ,IMHO, better built.

I agree. It has a full shaft right? where as the mustang uses a shaft that is only supported on one side? I really wish I could find a good high quality one that is around the size of the mustang unit.

It may be overkill, but it's not going to hurt anything :) Not to mention its cheaper than most mustang throttle bodies (i got mine for 80 bucks shipped with sensors off of ebay). If you're going to run a SMIM with a different flange, I certainly can't see why not run this one.

I guess I am going to go pick mine up again and try it. Also I don't want to cluter this thread to much more but is it fairly easy to make the idle motor work on it? I am running megasquirt so I would assume its fairly easy.

Tps wires in
no isc motor
adjusted with the biss screw :)

Did you ever get the motor running ? I'm curious about the idle and performance of these cams.

Well I can say that I have these same cams. I also have a dsmchip and the idle is set to 1,000 rpm and at that high of an rpm, I really don't notice any lopey idle much. If you have it lower though you can definately tell there's a bumpety bump bump.

I have to say that I've had so many problems with my car that I really haven't been able to drive it like I've wanted to. And right now, the stock cams are back in because the valve height was wrong :)mad: at whoever put the valves in) and my retainers got beat all to heck. I also now have a VPC so figured the stock cams would be better cause I've heard the VPC doesn't like to idle well with big cams. BUT, I'm about to try and throw them back in and see how well the car will run....if at all. The power loss was definately noticeable swapping back to the stock cams. Turbo spool took longer with stock cams, idle was at about -10Hg with the Comp 10144's, and could take it all the way to redline (8250) on my 2.3L stroker and T-67 with no power drop at all.

But my O2 has been fubar'd, wideband fouled, etc. etc. so I haven't had these cams anywhere near it's full potential yet. I really can't wait to get them back in my car. I've heard that the VPC doesn't like big cams at idle, but I've seen people running 272's so hoping these won't be bad with the high idle.

When I 1st got the car running, the coilpack wasn't grounded properly and the idle was only around 700 or so and you can definately hear the lope. Here's a vid although it was definately running really rich...but you'll get the idea.

Yes, I know the car is dirty, hope it helps though. Best I have for now. I'll try and post more when it's running again.

With your coil pack not grounded did that cause a miss fire ?

If not then what RPM is your car idling at in the vid you posted?

I'm also going to be building a 2.3l and I'm very interested in these cams. Seems to be a good combination.

I wouldn't say that it misfired. But my timing light wasn't working and the plugs would foul out in like 2 or 3 minutes and then die.

Also, in that vid, I had a Maftpro and everything was new. The rpm's were at around 700 with the coilpack not grounded. Unfortunately, that's the best idle vid I have at the moment. But at 1k rpm, you really can't tell that the car has cams.....much :D

Honestly I hate to say it, but I love the lopyness of the cams. If they sound like that with everything running properly I'm sold. Of course they need to perform too. I'm sure they do, I've read a lot of threads about them already.

Oh trust me, I like a lopey sound too, but I have a higher idle rpm cause I'd rather my car not stall out all the time :(

LOL To bad you dont have a sound clip of it idling at 1,000 rpm. I'm just curious.

These sound like the cams I want though thats for sure.

Close...but no cigar. It seems I only get to work on it piece by piece. I am actaully a little further than this pic. I curently have the waterpipe on as well as all the accessories, pullies and belts. I just have to wire in the TPS, and my cam angle sensor (2g car), then put in the radiator and coolant lines. That should be it...

I'm off on Friday so tomorrow night I will plug away a little at it and hopefully finish it on Friday.

Awsome! If you could, can you get a clip of it idling for us ? I would like to get a set of comp cams that idle rough and produce power. These seem to be the ones I want. But again I would like to hear it.

I already have the Comp 200's, but I'm building a 2.3l and the larger 400's seem to be great for the larger motor.

is that at 700rpm or 1000?

1000, can't remember what it was at 700. I think it's like -20Hg of vacuum with the stock cams if I remember right.

Jeez, Thats like nothing for vacuum. At that point do you think we could benifit from a vacuum canister ?

Any updates on this ?

Not from me. Mine is still down due to the lack of money needed to fix the problems that like to turnup. :(

I have made some progress. I had to enlarge the cable attachment hole on the q45tb so I had that done. When I put the tb back on a couple of the bolt holes in the SMIM stripped out, so I had to take it off and have some Time Serts put in. Got that done and reistalled everything. I got the coolant systme about finished up. I might have to mess with the lower radiator hose a bit to make sure it clears the shifter linkage. I also need to pick up a new ac belt since I cut mine old one years ago when the compressor crapped out. I swapped in another one when the car was apart. I'm waiting for my CAS harness from RRE that will be here in a few days. By the time it gets here everyithg else should be finished :)
Here is a current pic

Looking good man. Once you get that thing running report back asap! I want to know how those cams idle and perform. Good luck with everything.

I dropped off my head to the machine shop today to get it all checked out and have the Comp Cams thrown back in and to make sure the valve height is correct this time. I'll probably have to replace my oil pump on my motor and might just take in the bottom end to make sure it's okay cause of the massive oil leak I had. Prayin that there's no damage.

Anyway, I have my new chip and smaller injectors (780's versus 1000's) and when the motor is back in and car is running, I'll post more vids. Just might be a lil while though with x-mas and all coming up :(

Thanks for keeping us updated guys. It's nice of you to do that.

Well, mine is done but I found I was leaking coolant shortly after adding fluids. I'm hoping is coming from the o-ring and not from where I had the coolant ports welded closed on the water pipe. I"ll slap a new O-ring in it here shortly and try to fill it again. Taking the waterpipe off completely would probably be a pain in the ass at this point. If it goes well I'll have it broken in by tomorrow :) I can't wait.

Mine is still down unfortunately because of lack of funds at the moment. But when it is, I'll post again with more vids. Hopefully soon :( Nanokpsi, any luck with yours? Vids?
