cluster wont light up...other wont work....

ok...well ive had a 1990 laser fwd turbo for a few months...i know almost nothing of the cars background...the gauges have never lit up. All the fuses are good...all the gauges work except the temperature gauge. a friend of mine had another cluster of a 1992 turbo dsm ...so i put it in my car and it ddint light up...also none of they gauges worked, but the seat belt light, check engine light, abs light...all those light up at start pu like they should...on the original cluster only the check engine...open door...and parking break light work...ive been through hell ttrying to fix the problem....any help please or suggestions...thanks a lot...

ok, first of all a 92 cluster wont work right in your car sorry :(

and as for the lighing....the problem lies in your dimmer switch either u forgot to put it back in or the wires came loose or even broke....take off the front of the panel and check the dimmer switch.:thumb:
 
ok, i got a new dimmer switch from a friend of mine and plugged it in... everything lights up correctly now...FINALLY LOL...anyhow i got rid of the other cluster because it obviously doesnt work in my car LOL....thanks for the help

In case you're still having this problem, there's a temp gauge sending unit on the thermostat housing, next to the coolant temp sensor. The sending unit itself doesn't usually go out - it's usually the wires going to it that get old and brittle, and will break off. Just wanted to throw that out there in case you were still having this problem...A temp gauge is a good thing to have. LOL. :thumb:
