I been having cold start problems in the morning.
I been searching these forums and people are talking about the coolant temp sensor.
I called a parts store and the guy asked me which I needed.
He said there is a coolant temp sensor for emissions, one for fuel, ect, ect.
Can somone tell me the specific I need to ask for?
this is for a 1997 Eclipse 2.0 non turbo

You need the one that sends a signal to the ECU for fuel enrichment purposes under cold start. The other coolant temp sensor runs to your water temp gauge.

Hope that helps,

Andy

well I bought the sensor after work yesterday.
I'm going to try and see if I can find some tools around work here and change it at lunch.
IF I'm able to do it, then I'll see if it solves the problem tomorrow morning

Have a rag handy and be ready to swap the sensors quickly to avoid losing too much coolant (if you don't want to drain your coolant first).

Good luck. :)

I have this problem aswell in my 1g, when i start the car in the morning(or its been sitting for a while) cold start it and the rpms will be all the way up on 2.3k for about 2-5 minutes reving back and forth until the car gets warm. I already checked the TPS and its not it, what could it be?

I already made a thread way back but nobody could come up with the awnser. Can it be this coolant sensor?

finally going to get this sensor replaced today.
I wasnt able to do it myself with tools I had.
I have a guy doing the timing belt and water pump today, and going to have him put in the sensor at the same time. Though I am not optimistic it is going to solve the problem.
I have found that priming the car a few times in the morning gets it to start like it should normally. Meaning I turn the key to the on position and then off again a few times.
The car still seems to run kind of shitty though cold. Thing just starts bucking. its like its starving for gas and starts jerking. I have to lay off the gas totally when it happens and then slowly put my foot on the peddle again. This only happens when its cold though.
This car is killing me trying to get it running how it should.

Well the Sensor did not help the problem as I kind of expected.
Same problem this morning.
Today I replaced the Leak detection pump since I was getting a 1494.
problems never end with this car
Guess I am going to have to save a couple pay checks and pay the dealer to diagnose this thing.

Update on my car:
I took it to the dealer this week. been a bit of a nightmare since they changed price to just look at things so many times. Even told me to bring it down one day then when I got there turned me away and said they cant take any more cars. That was great since i left work to do it after they told me to come down there.

Anyway, they first tried telling me to replace my fuel filter.
I told them its brand new and I just put it on less than a month ago.
Now they said to replace the fuel pump, and they mentioned something about a rollover vlave and I think thye said the regulator. I'll have to wait till I pick up the car and read the paper work to be precise. They wanted almost 900 bucks to do the job. Thy didnt even say that was going to fix it. They said they would have to test it again after that.
I told them dont do a thing I'm just going to pick it up. I dont have that much money to give them right now.

Problem Fixed: Yesterday I noticed a hose was kinked that had to do wiht fuel.
Looked like when you kink a garden hose to stop its flow. Took the hose off and put it back on right. This morning, car fired right up no problem.

any help on which hose??? which side of the engine? My g/f's car has a similar issue.
