I got a 90 Gsx with a switchable Jdm Awd to Fwd tranny and Transfer case. My car goes through all the gears when the car is off, but when the car is on it doesnt let me go into any gears. I have to start it in 1st gear, when I start it in 1st the car starts to take off even with me holding the clutch all the way down. A friend of mine stated" The car is moving because the clutch is not completely freeing the tranny from the engine."
If I hold the clutch all the way down and press the gas the car moves even faster. After im in 1st it lets me go to second after a while but feels really funny. If I come to a complete stop I have to turn the car off and put it back in 1st again . I have a new clutch and pressure plate in the tranny and it has 200 miles on it so far. I checked, Tranny fluid, Ajusted the push rod for the clutch pedal, I also adjusted the clutch cables, and I also bleed the clutch any advice? So I dont have to pull out the tranny again!!

Sounds similiar to a problem i had, seems like your clutch is about to take a crap. I killed two stock clutches before i got my ACT 2600. My car would go in gear while it was off, but if it was on and i tried putting it in gear it would grind. This happens specially with a slightly modded car and a stock clutch, the stock clutch can hold a small amount of torque and after so many pulls it just gives up. I hope this helps, and good luck. I'd recommend the ACT 2600 clutch, its nothing but good news.

could be the TOB. but its most likely the clutch. my buddies 300zx did the same thing. turned out a spring had busted off of his clutch disc. sorry to be the bearer of bad news. you need a new clutch.

same thing happen to mine, spring tore out. You shoulda seen that thing. I had it hanged on my garage' wall for some time.

Thanks alot for the advice I jus put a new slave cyliner in and still not going into gear. Tomorrow morning im droppin out the tranny. Also I jacked up the car and turned the car on and I went through the gears while it was in the air, but when I put it on the ground it doesnt go into gear. The clutch only has 208 miles but I guess it got screwed up.

No problem, i hope you get it fix soon and i'd recommend an ACT 2600. Great investment IMO

A few things to check before you drop the tranny.

Try pumping the clutch while sitting still and use all the gears. This will help check for air in the system and a bad syncro.

Bleed the system to death!!!! I usually rig up a piece of clear plastic hose so i can see the fluid coming out. I will watch the fluid coming out and not stop bleeding until i have gone through 2 full containers in the top AND there is not a single bubble or spec of dirt coming out.

make sure the clutch fork is not cracked or bending. This will require you drop the tranny to fix but must be checked before you drop the tranny.

Try shifting gears at less than full clutch disengagement. This will help check for mis alignments and calibrations of parts.

After you drop the tranny if that doesn't work. Make sure you look at the little bearing in the flywheel...you should have one but I am not so sure on your model. This bearing can cause drag on the shaft even if the clutch is operating correctly.

My clutch was missing a spring jus like in this pic and alot of springs were broke and loose and cracked its really a bad site. I wish I could hang it in my garage too like sexpert stated LOL, but I got a life time warranty with this clutch from my job thank God thanks again!

Alright, but you'll be replacing it soon again and even faster if you start modding your car.

Good luck!

You were right my clutch went out again a week later I changed it now i put 17miles on it and its now slippingg im really pissed right now and really bout to give up on dsm.

Aight my slave cylinder screw got stuck wouldnt turn in out out so I changed the whole cylinder. As I was bleeding it I didnt really have pressure on the clutch so I adjusted the pushrod out towards the master cylinder than got more pressure. I put like 5 miles on it than next time I drove it the pedal was real stiff but everything was fine. Than I put when I got to 17 miles my clutch just started slippin I couldnt move the rod back in but finally got it. Now its not slipping anymore just from me adjusting the pushrod. Just letting you guys know the outcome because everything I have a problem and look up old threads. Most people never tell how the problem was fixed :dsm:

That really sux what happened there... I wouldn't put the same brand clutch in LOL. I was experiencing very similar problems to that a while back and everyone had told me that my pedal assembly needed to be welded ### it was loose and just turning in there instead of pushing the master cylinder rod in all the way... but come to find out it was just completely out of adjustment. Just goes to show... even if you have similar if not the same symptoms as someone else... it's not always the same problem.
