Yea so i have been hearing this squeak for a few weeks, which i assumed to be from my brakes being worn and just that little metal scraper that scrapes the rotor when the pads are low. I decided to check it out today, and i saw this:

How did the grease get on top of the nut? You sure its coming from the balljoint? I would check the condition of the CV boots just to be safe.

Ya I was about to say that looks like grease from the inside of the cvboot. I just tore one recently and thats what color the grease is.

My thoughts exactly. The grease would have to travel up and back over to get to that postion. It looks like the majority of it is spread across the middle with the back of the nuts free of grease.

Check your CV boots bro.

As soon as I saw the pictures I was going to say exactly what everyone else is saying: check the boot on the CV shaft for tears. It definitely looks like the grease is coming from there. When mine had a slight tear in it, the grease got all over the balljoints, my calipers, and all around the inside of the wheel.

No its the balljoint grease, i ran my finger on the top of the balljoint and i ended up smushing the grease on top of the nut and everything on accident. I saw this blob thing and had to poke it to see WTF it was cause it was covered in dirt. So it smeared on top of the nut and everything, trust me its the balljoint, i checked everything else under that side cause now im paranoid.

I had the recall serviced on my car about two years ago. They couldnt get some stuff to come out so they just cut it and replaced the entire front end(suspension wise)

$850 of parts and work.....freeeeeeeeee:rocks:

Nice, yea i took it to the mitsu dealer today and the guy was like, uh we can do it as a sidejob here for like 100 bucks, i was like WTF its a recall, meaning FREE. He told me to take it to the jeep dealer and see if they would do it. So I did and i have an appointment for them to replace them tomorrow.

How did it go at jeep? I dont think that I have had the recall done to mine....well not since Ive had the car anyway which was sept. of 04 but who knows about the previous owner.

Heh, turns out it was the control arm joint or whatever you want to call it. The balljoints are fine, so they returned my car, no harm no foul. Found out what my squeak noise was though, The 2 bolts holding the center crossmember in were BARELY loose, like i had to put a lot of ass into it to tighten them, but after i did that the squeak went away. :)
