Convinced Chris to come to the track tonight with a couple of guys. Got there and got the car teched in. Of course his battery cutoff wasn't working. They let him go anyway. Well we had no laptop, so the car was what it was. All we could do was turn up the boost. This was a pump gas tune he has been road racing with all year. Car needs another dial in session as he has a new intake maifold on the car. But it was close so we went for it. First pass he was just off the studder box. Made 0psi with the 2 step. Obviously he lost major vacuum with the FRH intake. He made 8psi before. Car was slow out of the whole. I think he missed a gear and hit the rev limiter in another gear. He ran 13.5@109.

Second pass he hit the rev limiter again and ran 13.3 @106 I think. Third pass was similar to the second. I knew we had to turn the antilag on. So I found another local who was running dsmlink and asked to borrow the computer. I made Chris wait until we got the laptop. 4th pass he missed second and ran another 13. On the 5th pass he nailed the launch and 1-2 shift. But hit the rev limiter in 4th and ran a 12.7@110 or so.

After this pass his wife was ready to go. She is 3 months pregnant and has no energy. They were all but ready to go when I begged and pleaded with her to let him go one more time. We turned the boost up a little and let him go. Mind you no changes to the tune all night. The boost was around 22psi on this last pass. Pump gas mind you. 5800ft above sea level. I told him not to worry about what the wideband was reading, what the boost gauge said and just drive the car and not hit the rev limiter.

He nails the launch. Nails the 1-2 shift. Nails the 2-3 shift. Shifts a little early, but nails it. Shifts early for the 3-4, nails it. Then the scoreboard lights up.

12.5@115

A new personal best for Chris. To give you an idea how bad a driver Chris is(just kidding) another friend of mine ran 11.9@114. So with a little more seat time and some minor tweaking and Chris will run and 11 on pump gas at 5800ft.

Congradulations Chris.

430-450. We left at 425 last time on a detune for the road course. His new intake and slight tweaking have brought him up a little.

Yeah, I wasn't happy with my driving, but hey, oh well. I could only muster a 1.91 60' on that run with some tire spin.

And Steven, when I left the track, the boost was still at 20 lbs. So no changes in boost on that last run, I was just a little "less bad" with the driving. :)

I'm thinking I'll check the tune and see if there's any room for improvement and maybe try again in a couple weeks.

That is very impressive. How much HP is chris laying down. With that 1/4 mile up here in the rocky mountain air im guessing 400+whp?

well my toyota celica all-trac making 350 whp on the dd dyno in Boulder, it ran a 12.4 @115 @ bandi a few years ago. i'm sure ludachris car is much lighter than an all trac, the drivetrain in the toyota looks like it came out of a UPS truck.

being in Fort Collins then driving my car here at sealevel, you only see a small spool up diffrence. it's not really any better, I would take the thin are and kickass roads over sealevel BS smack talk.

His own car. A 1997 Talon. We will work on the boost Chris. If I beg Jennie enough I can bring the computer over. I have a cable that works now for 1G's.

Chris has much more left. He just needs more passes in the car to get some really good times.

Dgarje777- I kind of act like a little kid and put on a nice little show. I act just as a little kid would act when asking for something. Not to mention absolute begging. I must have asked her 15 times. Just have to make her smile really and that is all it takes.

look whos converting who now.....

lets see some more times out of you luda, I know how it feels to pull off times that are so slow they shouldn't be possible with your car.

so what does a 12.5@115 at 5800ft equal out to at sea level?

From the NHRA website, it's a correction factor of .9405 for ET and 1.0563 for MPH at the 5800ft Denver track.

11.8 @ 121.5

Congrats!

It will run 11's now. on pump gas. Just needs a little more boost and no lift to shift. Chris has to respool on the 1-2 and 2-3. The 3-4 shift he is in boost and absolutely flies. He needs more seat time. Maybe I can convince him to run on the 10th at our import shootout locally.

Actually, if you read the NHRA correction factor page, you'll see the fine print for turbocharged/supercharged cars - under the first table it says they use half the correction factor for forced induction:
http://www.nhra.com/tech_specs/altitude.html

Not sure exactly how to calculate that, but I think it's only a 1/4-1/3 second difference and about 3-4 mph. That's all hypothetical anyway so who cares. If I could just get my shifts down I'd probably be able to hit 11's without the factor.

I'm trying to get some good friends of mine with N/A V8's to come up from Cali so we can test the correction factors. Hopefully later next year. Then at some point maybe I'll go down there and try it out.

No converting here man, I just do multiple types of track events. Can't be to one-dimensional, know what I mean?
