I just had my 1998 420a rebuilt for my new turbo kit. The crank, main bearings, rod bearings, pistons, and rods are all already in the block. The only parts i need to put together are gaskets, water pump, oil pump, oil pan, and what not. My question is how do i go about this, where do i start? Where do i put the engine oil assembly lube, RTV permatex, and what not. And whatever things i need to know that would be helpful to putting the motor back together. Thank you

The Chiltons would be a better manual to buy if you do not want to pick up the factory service manual. The water pump I would definately use a bit of RTV on the gasket to make sure you have no leaks when done. Water will find the smallest of passages to leak out, the oil pump will need to go on before your timing belt. When doing the timing, make sure the side that is stamped 2.0 on the cam gears is facing out(one side has 2.0, the other 2.4) and the timing marks point to one another. I would not bother to use RTV for the oil pan as, if I remember correctly, uses a rubber gasket like the 2.0 turbo v.c. gasket does, so it compresses and fills all deficiencies the mating surface may have. The main critical work is already finished by what you said, so unless you have to assemble the head, I cannot recall where you would need assembly lube on what you have left. Just be sure to pick up the manual, and follow the step by step instructions while putting everything back, and feel free to search and ask on any questions you may stumble upon while doing it.
