When I start my car, if it is not too cold outside, my car would normally begin to idle at about 750 rpms. Lately however, it will sometimes idle at 500 rpms and will shake the car because it is so low, and occasionally it will die. If I give it some gas, it picks up fine and the problem disappears until I back off the gas and it tries to idle again. After driving the car for about 5 minutes, the problem will stop (if I stop at a red light or stop sign, it will idle correctly at about 750 rpms). If I leave the car off for any longer than about 30 minutes, the problem will usually occur again the next time I start the car. This weekend I cleaned up my throttle body, fixed an oil leak due to a leaky valve cover gasket, and changed all my spark plugs and wires. None of this improved the situation one bit. Once the car is moving, it runs great. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

I duno and I don't want to say it but do you have your aircan hacked? If you do, I didn't think that would really affect a turbo car like it does the N/T's.

Mines been idling low too. I had the bottom of my air can hacked but that caused me to stall a few times so i fixed that problem with a little tape :) Hey it works. But lately its just been idling low too. My wouldn't stall though, it would just idle at about 500-600 rpms.

mine does the same thing- and i messed with my mass air sensor before it started doing it, i think that the maf is the culprit

check your idle switch/adjustment and tps is operating under .5 v at idle.

my car did this for awile too and it's just a problem that dsms have in general, my mechanic told me that it just happens everyonce and awhile like it's the computer getting "lazy" on occasion and usually not a problem it's just kind of annoying.

Damn daveelton i think were driving the same car. My idle is the exact same way u just discribed yours. It idles fine while driveing its only bad in the morning or like you said if i let it sit for a little while. Same exact thing idles really low at start up and sometimes dies. But also sometimes it will not idle low but instead start up and idle like at 1100 rpms or something around there. I adjusted the biss screw but it didn't do anything. It just reverted back to what it was before. But when it was out i noticed that the o-ring was really flat. It was flush with the stem of the o-ring. I'm not sure if its suppossed to be like that or if its supposed to stick out a little to create more of a seal. Does anybody know?

hehe.. the O-ring is supposed to look like a fruitloop.. not flat.. you should get that replaced, because perhaps air could be leaking out there.. cus ur mass airflow sensor tells ur ecu its getting this much air but then its leaking out ur BISS, so thats why its low.. also, what my mechanic did was.. took apart my MAS, and inside of it.. there's this little.. filament.. he used throttle body cleaner and tried to spray behind it.. its ackward to get to it.. but the tinyest spec of dust can make it read air flow wrong... and when he cleaned that, it actually fixed it somewhat.. but i know my o-ring is flat too.. so im just waiting, well to lazy to go get it =D

You guys are SO lucky. My idle is way to fast when cold !!! Does any one know what controls the cold idle rpm's... for fast or slow problems?.. Not what reads the temperature, but what actually makes the cold idle speed set? [Forgive my inability to make coherent sentences. It's been a long day.]OMG

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I do have a hacked MAS, however I did it early this summer and the problem has just recently shown up in the past couple weeks. As for the BISS and O-ring, I will look into that tonight. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

I think I have fixed the problem. I had been having idle surges, so I cleaned my throttle body to try to fix it. After cleaning it, I did not notice an improvement, and my car started dying more often. I found that when I put the hose clamp back onto the intake manifold, there is a small notch on the top of the manifold that the hose was sitting on top of, and I'm guessing a small amount of air was leaking out of it. I backed the hose off the notch and put the clamp back on, and have not seen a problem yet, with the exception of a small idle surge occasionally. However, it does not surge below 700 rpms. I imagine this problem isn't the problem for most of you out there, but maybe it will help someone.
