Alright, I've been meaning to ask this for quite some time. Now I by no means want a loud, bumping stereo. All I want is some nice sound quality. I had 220w 3-way pioneer 6x9s that I mounted in the rear speaker location in my '95 Talon.

Now, I had those speakers in 2 other cars before, and they always sounded awesome. Also they were powered by the same Headunit in all 3 cars. Now I put them in the talon, and they sound horrible. The quality isn't there. The bass isn't there, and the output is just horrible in comparison.

Is there anyway to get the sound qaulity to be better in the 2g's or am I just cursed with horrible sound quality?

Also, I'm looking for a decent set of speakers for cheap to go in the doors. I don't have a lot of money to spend, nor do I want to spend much on the stereo, but I want something with good quality, and sound for a cheap price.

You need to remember about bass, it is a self cancelling wave. mening you need to seal the front of your 6 X 9 from the back. look at the factory mount. it is not sealed. This could be a big reason why you no longer have bass. I have alpine Type S 6 X 9 in the back, and I sealed up the factory mounting spot with Fiberglass whenI put them in. they sound great. not as good as my 6.5 Type R components in the front, but WAY better than stock.

You should think about adding a 12" or so sub. In a hatch, a little sub goes a long way. They have bass tubes with the amp built in, so install would be a no brainer, and they can be had for a decent price.
As far as speakers, any brand will do over the stockers. I would make sure the cone material is NOT paper, or is at least coated. Polk, Infinity, MTX...any will work.
One more question, are you running through a stock Infinity amp?

Ahhhh, so Fiberglass insulation behind the speaker will clear it up a lot you say?

I'm just running off my Aiwa HU. 45wx4 No idea on RMS.

No sub. Don't want one. I have money to spend on the cars performance before worrying about sound that much. I just want to get the speakers I have sounding good at least.

no he'stalking about glassing the mount to the sheetmetal to make it a sealed enclosure...

6x9s usually like to have a decent amount of airspace... and on a 2g there just isn't that much left after you stick a big magnet speaker in there. That being said giving them more than the 18w your head puts out will go a long way in improving bass...
the other thing might be that you previously had them decklid mounted and you could hear them better.

Inexpensive but good components I 'd say JBL GTOs... if you are looking for coaxials remember you are going to have your tweeters aimed at your ankles/calf but I like JBLs or Alpine Rs... you can sometimes find really good deals on discontinued or demo models at your local sound shop.

Just don't expect the infinityu systems thump after you deck + 4 the car... It jsut doesn't work that way...

Eagle got it right. I am referring to using cloth and resin to make a fiberglass shell. think of a boat. they are fiberglass. same principal. it is a bit messy, and smells like um, well, it smells like fiberglass resin which aint nice, but the results are well worth it.

as to the coaxials being aimed at your ankles.... here ar my pods I amde for my 6.5 components. granted my tweets are in my door at the top and aimed at me, but the woofers are also tilted and aimed at me, not my ankles. Just dont mind the crappy Bondo job. ran outta time and had to mount them. cant drive 200 miles a day with out music!

as to the origional question about the 6 X 9's in the rear... Sorry I am not going to dissassemble my car right now to snap a pic. But anyway, most of my sound comes from the components inthe front any way. I only use the rear channel to pull the sound stage off the windshield a bit and center it on me. but now that I have my pods made I really dont need to nearly as much.

very nice... a bit of sanding and grinding and you will be good to paint or vinyl wrap them.

here's a look at my q forms ( not color matched yet or sealed) and
I run kicker 6.5 subs in the doors... might go to 8's though and 6.5 components or just 6.5 components in the OEM locations... who knows??? for now it is much better than stock but just don't want to add another sub in the back again. Right now runnign one JBL GTO 755.6 amp... works nicely with everything. and my alpine 6x9s are turned way down and have excellent bass for a non sealed 6x9.
