my auto just went for the 4th time since i owned the car. dean mason built this trans the last time, put it in the car late fall, stored the car for the winter, took it for its first ride for the spring today, and its gone. for the 4th time. the transmissions in our cars are the biggest pieces of shit ever created. it blows my mind they even got away with selling this. if you are thinking about buying an automatic, don't.

tonight i stepped on the gas, and the motor went to 8,500 before i lifted because it would not shift. after i stopped, i took back off and when it would normally hit 3rd it slams back into first. it did this a few times and now its just stuck in 2nd. #2 solenoid is new. trans is beefed, has a shift kit, built by dean mason.

cliffs:
all dsm transmissions are shit.
put a total of $5,000 in trans, still broke
I'm done.
nice to know you all, peace -

Four times in a row eh? Somethings not right...

Yea something is not right. Here’s my story (possible teal dear)

I don’t know, I think it was 3 years ago I decided to beef up my transmission. TO PREVENT any problems in the future. It all started with sending the converter to Dynamic, and sending the trans to a local transmission guy who builds race transmissions. After I got the converter back, it felt awful tight spinning it with my fingers. Oh well they have to know what they are doing. I put it all back together and took off down the road. Driving down the expressway doing 75, the car went to neutral. (at least that’s what it felt like) and would not move. I took the trans back to the guy who built it. The whole thing was fried. It turns out my converter WAS too tight and starved the transmission for fluid, burning it up. I had the guy rebuild the trans again, and sent the converter back to Dynamic. Dynamic sent another different converter. Hmmmmmm this one spins freely with your fingers. This new setup lasted about a week, and funny things started to happen. The car started getting stuck in gears and shift really funny and doing things it was not suppose to do. I was so pissed I continued to drive it. Until one day it just stuck in 3rd. so I drove it home stuck in 3rd. from the drive home I burned up some end clutches. Getting fed up with all the problems I decided to just ship it to dean mason. (cost $500 to ship it) 6 months later she came in the mail. I put it in the car and big surprise it is still stuck in third. My guess is it has to be a solenoid or something computer controlled. I took it to a local trans shop that I just found at the time, that actually kind of specializes in these transmissions. He said solenoid B was bad, and replaced it. At this time the weather was getting bad, winter was almost here. I drove it for a day before storing it, and it drove perfect. Yesterday was my first time pulling her out for the season, lasted about 7 miles. At WOT I hit about 8,500 because it would not shift to 3rd. I came to a stop and now instead of hitting 3rd it slams back to first. Anyone that knows a lot about these have any ideas? It just seems to me it has to be solenoids. My guess is very fine metal from burning it up so many times got all up in the solenoids causing them to act funny. I guess I did not blow the trans up 4 times but this is the 4th time I have a catastrophic problem. So this is me $5,000 later and a trans that does not work.

i wouldnt recomend that you drop every corner like a man. and if you power shift that causes a lot of dam age. (pun intended) in the colder months did it ever clunk real hard into first and then there would be nothing? this is happening to me right now and im afraid that im busting somthing every time. :dsm: :barf: :dsm:

elaborate more what its doing

I feel for you, I would say that your transmission people really did you in. There is no way it should die 4 times. I had my girlfriends rebuilt 6 years ago for $1600 and its still alive 50k later. My stock trans just hit 80k and I have 400 hp going through it at 22 psi and its just starting to slip on the high end.

I would say this though, since you have dropped already $5k on it you should ditch the car. You could of bought another one for that money. Automatics can really be a money pit and if you are not going to keep the car for a long time, they are a really bad investment. IPT wants $3k and then you need the converter at $700, you better keep the car otherwise theres $3700 out the window. Their trans WILL last you a long time, but for you, its over dude. I would bail asap and get a $3000 stick DSM and be done with it.

as much as i would like to, i cant ditch the car. i have to much heart and soul into it. i got this car i think 5 years ago wrecked, for $500. me and my dad did the body work, my dad helped me paint it, i have gone through hell with it, blew the motor, re-built it, the car is a part of me. look at the pictures its not no $500 car anymore. the money is not the issue with getting rid of it, its all the blood sweat and tears that have gone into it and it just would not be worth it to ditch it. the transmission is strong as it can possibly be. it has all the best parts inside it, its beefed to the max. its just confused. its just a stupid solenoid or something. right now its not burned up, just confused. i took it to the trans shop again yesterday, and they said they don't even want to work on it again. they want to just build another differant one. well that bullshit because like i said the trans is pretty much as good as it can be, it just has a stupid computer controlled issue or sticky solenoid. so i don't know what to do now :barf: but this is getting old :boring:

dude. if your keeping the car. a ipt trans will be a investment. go w/ipt. you woulda saved money if you did that from the start. do it right the first time. good luck

i hate to say this but have you checked the transmission control unit (TCU). it controls all the electronic aspects of the transmission.

no i havent .. but maybe it would be a good idea .. i thought about it, i dont even know where it is. how do you check to see if its messed up?

Yeah, if you want it done right, IPT can help you. I have no doubt in my mind that John will find out what is wrong. I would first try to get another TCU to try before you go ripping the transmission out. I have a Q, what did Dean and the rest of the tranny people say who you sent your transmission to when they tested it? What was the problem according to them?
