I know a lot of guys have done the external wastegate mod to the 16g. What needs to be done to the turbo in order for this to work good. Any Pics or Advice would be great. Thanks again :dsm:

You have to decide on were you are going to put you WG. IF you put it on the manifold, I suggest against putting it on a single runner, then you will just need to plug the WG "hole" in the turbine housing. If you are going to put it on the O2 housing then you will need to remove the flapper and make sure that the "hole" doesnt have an obstructions. You will then need to buy an O2 housing setup for an external WG.

Put the wastegate on the manifold, take the regular waste gate and arm off, get a welder and put a spot of weld on the flapper arm, This way if you want to go back to it being internally gated you can just chisel off the spot of weld.

sorry to dig up a dead thread, but i plan on getting an external soon and doing this to get rid of creep issues. if im just running stock boost w/ the 14b does the wg flapper need to be welded shut or can i just leave it how it is and run the vaccum hose to the external rather than the internal. thanks.

if you're having boost creep issues with a 14b you may want to look into other things first before going to an external.

Boost creep is from a full 3" 02 elim turbo back i put on. i need to get an external anyways as im getting a agp60-1 this summer and plan on running external on it. it just jumped a few rungs on my to do list.

I agree with Micheal, I would prefer the WG to be on the O2 housing.
With exytensie porting and this set up spool up will be quicker compared to an internal wg setup. Boost creep should be eliminated.

this is the setup i run to eliminate boost creep from dnperformance with a tial 38mm and i love it. you get the manifold external and 02 housing all in one shot and the install was a breeze. i wanted the external routed back into the 02 housing for emissions here in MD :notgood: i would rather have it dumped to atmosphere but o well. i love the setup :thumb:

Oh man, that is super sexy. If you dont mind how much did that run you with the WG?

like $1035 i think you can either get the whole kit that comes with a 35mm external seemed like a knockoff or ebay wastegate so they guy said i could just buy the manifold and 02 housing without the wastegate for 800 i think. i just bought the tial from slowboy
