I have a loose ground wire right below where my air filter goes. Its attached to the body of the car, but its just hanging there. the other side is not attach to anything. I think it suppose to be grounded unto the transmission, cause i just had a clutch install by a friend and he took the transmission off and i guess he forgot to attach it back on. so I could just attach it anywhere on the engine or transmission or does it have to be on a certain spot. And would that cause any affect if it stays how it it (loose, not attach to anything)

The wire that comes from the wall goes tot he transmission, it wont HURT anything if its not connected you just will not have AS GOOD of a ground to the transmission area.

Go ahead and connect it to the transmission it sounds like the one that goes on the bolt that hold the slave line to the front of the tranny.

I have heard stories of people running into problems without the exhaust ground hooked up, but I've never actullay knew anybody personally who had a problem. For the effort you may as well just hook it up to keep all the factory ground points in place.

the wire isnt even on there, is it just any ground wire attached from some bolt to the exhaust, or is there a certain spot it should be hooked to

The original grounding point is by the hanger closet to the front of the car by the rear 02 sensor. I just bought some grounding strap and mounted it between the exhaust hanger and then to the pipe with a large hose clamp.

so it isnt suppose to be grounded from the rear O2 to the exhaust? just the hangar to the exhaust? thanx man... has anyone here experienced a problem without it on?

Ok, from everything I have read about ground wire kits they are amazing. For those who don't know they give you better MPG, reduced emmisions, brighter lights, and even hp and tq! I know there are more benefits as well. Anyways, I hear that they are pretty expensive if they are bought but I have not seen any for sale? Oh is there anyway to make your own? thanks.

so whats the point of this mod? a ground is a ground right?

not necessarily. The cable used from the factory is not as insulated and not as high quality as your high end car audio cable is. And usually the kits give you an upgrade in ground wire size, plus your stock grounds are probably oxidized depending on how old your car is and where you live, so changing to better upgraded wire will lower resistance, making the electronics in the car perform better. It does make a difference.
If you can get a deal on the wires and connectors, you could make your own kit for much cheaper than 100 bucks. I wish I had more black 8 gauge laying around, I'd make my own kits to sell; all I have tons of is red, though.

In all honesty, I did this mod and I noticed brighter interior lighting. There was no super horsepower adder, not like I upgraded turbos or something. I say dont blow the 100+ dollars on a kit. If you have time and the supplies already then do it if not, then dont bother. :thumb: :talon:
i know there is minimal hp and tq gains but the main reason I was doing this mod was for better fuel economy, smoother idle, and overall performance. you didnt see any of these changes?

Does anyone have any actual data to prove this? Before/After Dyno information? I am skeptical of HP gains...brighter lights, better less noise in radio...maybe.

I'll see if I can dig up the article from Turbo when they did dyno tests on an Rx-7. I think its in one of my many piles of car mags in my garage.

Very very minimal if any. The idle was slightly smoother but eh. I think the only way to get the true performance/noticable difference would be to dyno the car first. Then move the grounding points around to find the most optimal ground to get the performance out of it. Then re dyno the car and repeat the process until you get the best you can out of it. :thumb: :talon:

I have some dumb free issue of Import Tuner somewhere and I remember they put a grounding kit on a car and dynoed it. It boosted a whopping 1hp. But then again, I guess something, even if minimal, is better than nothing. Also, it's not intended directly for power gains anyways. I remember I mentioned that to a friend and he said that a dyno wouldn't even notice 1hp, but that's a stupid statement. What, a dyno only reads in incriments of 10hp at a time? Yeah right, if there's an increase it'll show it.

no your freind is right.

say take a 300hp car and do 3 exact pulls without changing anything. the dyno will always be off a few hp/tq. no way around it. dynos are accurate within +/- 5.

in the ground wire test, where it said it gained a couple hp, is more than likely a false reading caused by the dyno itself.

the only way to really say would to do 3 pulls without the wires, then average them out for a number. then do 3 pulls with the wires and average them out. if there are any gains, then its feasible.

and you can gett a amp wiring kit with 4ga wiring off ebay for 20-30 bucks, and use that for the grounds. go to autozone and get a shitload of copper 4ga connectors and solder them onto the ends of the cables(using a torch and a bench vise, heat up the connector and fill it halfway with solder, while keeping the solder melted with the torch, stick in one end of the cable(obviously stripped a 1/4 inch) and turn off the torch, and let it solidify)

A magazine did a build up on a 2G eclipse and this was one of thier mods. It is on the Road Race Engineering website. Go check it out, they have dyno numbers for each mod they did.

I purchased a Ground Kit of Ebay for a cheap price, like 26 dollars shipped, they had me run ground wires to the body, engine block, head, tranny, Alternator, intake manifold....i did notice better quality in headlights, interior lights, better sound out of stereo...the gas mileage went up like a couple miles, and power its hard to say ....but it was when i took one of those ground wires and actually added it on to the alternator power back to the batter was when the car came to life power wise and all kinds of brightness in lights and sound!! :thumb: :dsm:

Anyone who has this kit or would just wanna run a stronger power wire might wanna try this, I'm out!

this is what my friend just added http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7976804637&category=33692
he claims to have smoother idle ...
I will try this mod in the future :D it doesn't look too expensive.

I was present when one was installed on an old 4A-GE power Toyota. Stock grounds were in horrible shape. Installed the new fancy ground "system" and the car dyno'd at the same power as it did with the nasty old stock grounds. Didn't notice any difference in lights or anything else.

I am installing a reman engine and was wondering were the ground wire bolts to on the

intake manifold that is bolted to the firewall on the drivers side. I forget were it goes.

this is for a secong gen. if anyone has a pic that would help.
