I was wondering if anyone had ideas on how to get more low-end with our A/T's. I know I have pretty good top-end with my stock turbo with a turbo back exhaust, but my low end is gone. My car's basically become a top-end car, but I want to make it somewhat decent on the streets instead of nothing but high speed. Anyone got any ideas that wont cost a lot of money?

I read the topics on launching and everything, but still, I want it faster. And there's no way in hell im going to Netural drop the tranny so count that out.

Thanks

Its all about a restalled converter or a billet converter. Which the prices range from $400-$1200 bucks. When did the T25 become a turbo with so much top end power?

Im comparing it to how it was when it was stock. It has adequate top-end power, and for me, seeing as this is my first car and being in high school still, it's a good base for me. I want more power, and atm money is an issue, so I want the best bang for the buck

There isn't a bang for the buck with an A/T...unless you find a used converter, and even then I would have it inspected before installing it.

Hi Mike,

I disagree- a torque converter offers the best bang for the buck out of almost any mod in an auto DSM.

You should know that better than anyone :)

I guess you could call it a "bang for your buck", but I was taking into consideration that he was a high school student... I mean 4-500 plus labor, unless he's brave enough to do it on his own....
And you don't have to tell me twice that my custom IPT converter was the MOST worthwhile and important mod I've done to date.... :thumb:

John is the only reason I still have my car and it's on the road today..I give credit where due...

Here's a decent launch if you haven't already seen it...

Floor brake
Pull e-brake all the way up
Floor gas
I usually hit like 3800-4000 rpms (3200 is also nice)
Let go of e-brake and brake
Keep gas floored

And what i dont understand is if I can launch at 4000 rpms, then what is sooooo bad about having an auto, other than having to beat teh shit out of your tranny?

I hope you have a restalled or a high stall TC or your front clutch pack is getting shredded....

What about the shift kit? Don't have one but have used them in past cars. I saw it on a DSM website for around $100 bucks. Plus you'll be getting all that old used tranny fluid out (probably a rust or brown color if worn). Fill it with new blood red stuff and you'll notice nicer shifts.

Lucas has an auto tranny "conditioner" that helps slipping trannies. I threw it in a car I had (stuff is THICK) and noticed much more crisper shifts. That might give you harder, faster shifts which helps you get back in the powerband faster. Stuff is only $5 a bottle and you only need one, unless you want to throw it in your diffs [which I believe it says you can do (up to half a bottle)].

You wanted bang-for-buck there. That cheaper that a torque converter and it will still be as streetable as it is now.

yeah no way in hell your doing 4 grand with a stock converter.

Im sure he can pull 4k but the tranny is forever going to be messed up. I dont remember the stack stall but isnt it close to 3000rpms? I wouldnt ever rev past 2500 on my stocker, to scared to break something. Plus my 60-1 doesnt spool anyhow

Wait Wait I hope were all on the same page here. You guys are talking about holding the brake down and gasing it (Power brake) right? With a stock converter the most it will let you go from doing that is about 2500rpm. But you guys are talking about 4000rpms with a stock converter. I hope you guys arent talking about neutral drops because that doesnt do shit but hurt your transmission.
