I have seen a few DSM's on this board with vynil stripes over the fender like this one:



Whats does it stand for. I see alot of people with them and not only on DSM's. I see em on BMWs and hondas. Does it stand for anything?

well..as far as i know..back in the day..BMWs m power had a 3 stipe simbol in their M powered Race cars..Opels Irmscher had the same -only 2 colours being Yellow and White/Grey

bvut that was like in the early eiighties ...

u used to find these Stripes for BMW and OPEL in almost every Autoparts store here..gone now

Edit..ive seen Lancers with the three Mitsubishi Ralliart stripes on the fender like that too...
and Older Celicas with the Red/Green Toyota Castrol stripes...

Citroens with the TOTAL OIL stripes(RED/White) ..so i guess its just people making their cars look like Rally/DTM/Race cars

Ok well I like it but I was just wondering what the reasoning behind it was or where it came from.

I believe it is for identifying and separating team cars that look similar. Something to do with calling them into the pits. That's what they are for on Corvette Grand Sports.

His is the white 2G with black stripes on the fender. I wonder what his are for?

I started doing this to my cars a good 8 years ago after seeing it somewhere. I forget what I saw it on first. I have rocked them on two different cars and others at meets and such have asked about them. Nick (laser above) liked them and asked if I minded if he did it to his car. Someone else with a champagne 1G did the same recently. hehe, like I own the rights to it.


Anyway, on a street car like mine it isn't for anything but looks.

As Erik said, I got the idea from him. I seen his car about 3 years ago at a meet and really liked them. I asked for permission to steal his idea and he granted. Thus, my Gayser with stripes.

Does anyone have pics of carbon fiber fenders with an unpainted stripe? I think that'd look pretty sweet.
