It might be stupid Question but I live in South Korea and it's really hard to find stock DSM part here.

I'm going to change my car's timing belt (97 eclipse GST) soon and also want to change the crankshaft pulley. I already find out that timing belt and other parts are compatible with Hyundai Sonata 2.0 DOHC which is 4G63nt motor. how about crank pulley? Is it also compatible?

I checked some US parts shop, DSM Crank pulley was way too expensive than Sonata's.
In here I can get Sonata's Crank Pulley as low as $35USD..brand new.

It seems little too low but wth it's made in Korea (joke).
If Sonata's crank pulley is fully compatible with my eclipse, I'll go get that one.

Anybody can give me an answer?

Thanx....

what's wrong with ur pulley right now?

It's not part of the must do list when doing a timing belt job. If yours is fine, use it until it dies. The one you have in there is probably better than a brand new one "made in Korea" anyway. :p

I wouldn't worry about that part, there've been many, many more Mitsubishi engines and parts made in Korea (KIA, Hyundai and who knows what all else) than Mits could ever dream of making.

And when it dies it will skip timing. Do it now.

I finally got info. from Hundai in Korea.

Sonata 2.0 DOHC using exacly same crank pulley with our DSM.

Even early version of Hyundai sonata(92-95 I guess) was using Mitsubishi engine.

anyway, a lot other engine parts are exchagable.

For ex. Timing belt, other pulleies, ISC motor, PCV valve, valve cover, valve cover gasket,

Spark plug cover......

Oh, one more thing, you can change the front brake (95-99 GST) with a HYUNDAI XG3.0

with out any modification.

Since my GST is 1 piston, XG3.0 has bigger rotor and 2 piston caliper.

I might want to exchange that brake system. It only cost me $250.00 (rotor, caliper and

other things like brake pad.....)

You guys might ask me, "Why Hyundai?" Reason is I live in Korea and In here

we just can't find any DSM parts around here.

And Hyundai stock parts are dirt cheap here, too. :dsm: ;)

Mine did when it seperated, and many others have IF you search you would know that..

?

Well mine didin't and I have been reading many threads concerning this issue and had never came across it. Maybe you're right but must be a rare case.

It also sucks when that happens BTW.

Yeah I guess that the change in tension on the crank is reall sudden, and can cause it to jump a tooth. Well that's what happened on mine. I am getting the timing belt done along with the crank pulley at the same time. Also replacing the idler pulley, tensioer pulley, and the tensioner, waterpump, accesory belts.

On mine, when it seperated, it also made accesory belts come off.

Sometimes an accesory belt can break when the pulley seperates, and break the timing belt cover, and get into the timing belt. That's kinda worse-case scenario I think right there. OMG

That's what happened to my previous 91 Talon AWD. A/C belt ended up inside the lower belt cover, and the timing belt jumped 5 teeth, destroying the engine. However, I understand that this is rare.

Haha, I just threw out my old seperated Pulley today. Kept it 5 months to see if anyone needed a pic of what it looked like when seperated.

My engine only had 38k on it aswell. Original mileage on the 97 GS-T

That's what I'm gonna to. Thanx for the info. about crank pulley.

Sounds spooky, Mine is 97 GST and my engine had 100k on it

I'd better go out and change everything, today. Thanx :thumb: :dsm:
