ok, what happened to this company?

Since when does obx turn around from making rice parts to making LSD's, cams, manifolds, headers and NOW intercoolers, which are btw, EXACT replicas of APEXi????

I mean its almost as if they literally, take a product, CLONE it, and sell it for 1/3 the price

The products look nice, but WTF???

how can you possibly do this? At these prices? Legally????

If you spend $800-900 for Greddy or apexi kit and you still are stuck using the most resprictive part is the IC piping. They don't include UICP either.

I really love that SBR FMIC thou...Looks big and cool and have a proven numbers.
Only 1 thing I hate about SBR is only price tag hehehe...

So basically, you spend $500 and you still are stuck using the most resprictive part is the IC piping. VVVVVVV

The piping doesnt look horrible (even though it is the long route). IMO, the core looks like junk, but I cannot comment on it's performance yet. I dont really like how the inset rows of fins stick out. That is what makes them very week, and extremely seceptible (sp?) to being damaged (well, more than others).

Here's a quick comparision to a SBR FMIC; just from what you can see.

SBR's comes with short route piping unlike this one.
SBR's comes with the UICP flanged of your choice. This kit has no UICP.
SBR's comes with a 2.5" TB Elbow (extremely nice, also). OBX does not include one.
SBR includes the stronger T-bolt clamps instead of OBX's standard worm clamps.
SBR's have strong, welded-on brackets that allow it to mount sturdy and level. OBX's mounts appear to be somewhat 'universal', allowing the IC to be less study and crooked.

And SBR's has been proven with numbers..... Hopefully someone can get some flow numbers on this OBX.....

IDK, maybe it's just me. I've seen many, and used some of OBX products and I've never been impressed with quality and/or performance. That and I really respect the quality fabricated work of my DSM vendors.... :thumb:

Yes, but it is available. OBX doesnt make or offer one. When you order a GReddy, you just ask for the UICP to be included......

hehhh...... IMO, it's not that bad..... I just got mine for $850 shipped. It's quality and complete composition makes it worth the extra money. :thumb:

i personally have seen the kit on 98turbos car. Its okay, but im just going to get an upgraded sidemount, i wasnt sold on it. I only want to make 300hp anyhow, a nice sidemount is probably better in my case anyhow.

is the bumper rebar on or off? have you tried putting it back on to see if it fits with it on?
i wouldn't really like to just have a bumper cover on without an acutal bumper. i see in the pics also that the piping went all the way to the turbo outlet? the lower intercooler pipe came with the kit as well?

The rebar is off. It would take massive cutting to get it too fit. Mine fits very snug agaist the intercooler. Yeah its not the same, but the bumper cover doesn't flap in high speeds. The lower intercooler pipe did come with it, but as you can see I bought another coupler because it's short one.... :thumbdown

well to those of you who do get this....TIGHTEN YOUR DAM clamps...and i suggest to get the UICP first....since saturday we have had the pipe pop off 6 times and spent about twice that number in hours on the side of the road in cold puttin it back on, which in few last cases included removal of front bumper...the first couple snap offs was the intake couplet that we used as a solution for not having enough with the kit. so 98turbo bought a diff couplet so now the last couple of time pipin popped of was where the metal ic pipin meets the stock...happend TWICE tonight, now he just drives around without a damn front bumper and a toolbox along with a flash light in the back...(actually a wrench, and 2 screw drivers thats all you need and 8 and 10 mm sockets.) well the LAST time we tighted that foocker NICELY so tha it aint going anywhere and did some "tests" right after...never popped off....who knows maybe itll hold now...but UICP is on the way as far as i know...

Well, I already have Greddy UICP installed.

So, basically If I have a after maket UICP, It's not gonna come off?

well after reading all the comments, concerns, issues, and opinions in this thread I have come to 3 conclusions.

There are still some customers who are willing to pay for quality and service after the sale.

There are quite a few who want it cheap, and that it works and that's it. Perhaps a mentality that is carrying over from the disposable personal electronics market.

I don't like the appearance/universality fitting/ ease of fin damage of the OBX unit, nor do I need/want an SBR or GREDDY or APEXi or Spearco FMIC bad enough to remove/ hack/ modify my bumper or dump my fogs. I think after seeing both sets of pics that an UPgraded SMIC will suit my needs, and I willl purchase one from a reputable dealer that I know has supported the DSM community, and will return my calls, provide me with a tracking number, be there if I am missing a coupler or to help with any questions, and whose employees actually drive DSMs.

After all, just think how far down in price parts have already come since the mid 90's, and how powerful tuning has become, thanks to the established guys building good quality parts at AFFORDABLE (not cheap) parts, and innovating new parts, turbos, I/cs, electronics (like affordable widebands and ECMs) etc.

I want DSM tuners and developers to survive so that I can continue to enjoy my car 25 years from now. However, I am not going to bad mouth anyone who is in dire need of an FMIC and chooses for reasons of economy to purchase this core/kit, as long as they understand exactly what they are getting thanks to the posted pics.

I read all ten pages too. I agree with all three conclusions but would remove, hack, and modify my bumper to make a FMIC fit; and my fogs have already been removed.
