BTW it happened on 11/26/04 i think he just need to meet his quota.
Here's the deal on "ticket quotas".

You have a job? Do you get in trouble if you show up, punch in, and sit there? So do cops. Tickets are simple proof that an officer's working. So are accident reports, court appearances, investigations, arrests, stolen car recoveries, counter time and a tidy uniform and car. Tickets are the easiest to show activity, and most offices will have unwritten guidelines of how many a day will keep the sergeant off your ass, just like a certain amount of cash in the till at Jack's Burgers will.
It's just a job. It has the same highs and lows as all the rest of them. But there's no need for any kind of "quotas". Nor has there ever been.

that doesn't sound legal to me, if a cop can give you a ticket and not even pull you over they can just fine any random person for any random thing, kinda violates your rights, also did you do the crime?

Defiant, you NEED to stop reading my mind.

As the old fart stated, a cop is a cop off-duty or not. It's just most of the time they won't call in things when they are off-duty because they have no way of backup (This is why you usually get a cop or two on your butt when you get pulled over on the highway.)

How funny, they can do there job off duty. But when it comes to me getting hit and then the guy ran AND i got his licence plate they did nothing even after i told them the licence plate number and i bugged them about it for a good month and the guy got away and I was stuck with paying for getting everything fixed. Im sure if there son or daughter's car got hit the guy would have been in trouble the day after it happened. I have nothing agesnt cops but some of them (not all) around here like to pull people over for no reason.

My friend got pulled over for a taillight being out in his 240sx and he told the cop he was going to get it fixed tomorrow. It was kinda like this:

 - Licence and Registration Please.
:) - What did I do officer?
 - Your rear tail light is out, you wouldnt happen to have any type of contraban in
the car would you?
 - Like what guns? No
 - Or Drugs. Please step out of the car. Pat Pat Pat Pat. Hmm your no weapons on you... Mind if we search the car?
:| - Umm no i guess you can.
 - *Search* *Search* *Search* Why do you have knifes in you car?
:| - There throwing knifes I bought them off ebay.
 - Oic, Well you have a nice night.

Sorry I was really bored .

Talk to a lawyer. I got pulled over for doing 80kmh in a 60kmh, and it was a community safety zone. But the thing is that the cop who pulled me over would see me everyday on my way to school, going the same speed with traffic and never pulled me over. Then on that day out of nowhere I see lights behind me.

When I talked to my lawyer he was like "What is the name of the officer who pulled you over?" ...I reply..."Oh LOL, he must have been having a bad day then." WTF do I care about how his day is going? I wasnt passing anyone, and a minivan was actually passing me.

Anyways the lawyer got it from a $190 to nothing and no demarit points for $300. But its worth it cause my insurance would have been much worse.

ROFL. He was searched for having a light out?

You DO know he could have said no, right?

Are you SURE that's how the conversation went?

They don't have a quota. They can write as many tickets as they like.

My buddy is the Chief of Police here in Island Lake..I asked about that..They are called "Goals" not quotas

There was a bit more in between on that story but i ran outta smileys cause your only allowed to put a certain amount in one post.

btw, yes they seached his car and patted him down and stuff for having a light out.

He should have said no, he could have. They had no right

got you beet.
my neighbor is a cop in my town. i was ####ing around one day past him in the shoulder not knowing it was him. followed by my friend, 3 days later 4 tickets come in the mail and he got 2 as well. court date comes he gets off with nothing. i get pulled out of the courtroom yelled at then recieve all 11 points.

Update- Well i went to court today, The officer said that I cut him off making him swerve and then he accelerated and got up next to me and my friends in the car where pointing at him and making fun of him and that is why he gave me the ticket. My lawyer got it dropped down to a smaller violation and no points on my licence. I apologized to the cop and left. After I called my friend that I thought would be one of the people i had in the car since i didnt remember. He said that he thinks it was a black hundai and that the cop pulled next to us flipping out and that is why they where making fun of him.

Well now you know that you can never tell who is in the car next to you.

hmmmm sucks for you that thats who you cut off. This just happend to my moms friend....He got a ticket in the mail saying its a ticket for speeding. they specified the date, and location and it happened in WASHINGTON D.C., he lives in harrisburg, PA...he was down there visitng....they gave him a picture of his license plate they took, and described how they caught him. Basically an undercover car driving the speedlimit, w/ a camera and radar takes pictures of any cars around it speeding then sends it to their address. it was just a 50 dollar fine, but he was still pretty angry. I think its BS...they should pull you over at the time of the infraction so that in case there was a mistake, you can challenge it.

Did you know that traffic tickets like that in DC are issued by a private company? It's not even the police taxing you anymore.. More than half of the ticket price goes to said company.

Hell, in Washington DC, a THIRD of the money you pay for running a red light goes towards the contractors who installed/maintain them, Lockheed Martin IMS/Affiliated Computer Services. In some cities, police don't even review the citations being issued by remote systems (due to image developing being done, once again, by private contractors.)

Leet, you're not very good at quoting yourself.

here's one that happened to me 3 days ago.
i was driving home from downtown(playing pool) and got on the interstate. to my suprise, there were a number of cops out on the highway. i adjusted my speed to 65 (i was going 70) and set my cruise control on. about 5 miles down the road were 3 cops sitting in the middle of the road (the median) so i thought "hey i'm going 65, there's nothing they can do"

boy, i was wrong. turns out, just a few seconds before i passed them, another silver car went by those cops at a buck twenty. move ahead 5 more miles, i'm getting ready to get off at my exit. here comes this cop, roaring up on my tail, followed by 4 other cops. i just start yelling at the top of my lungs "I Wasn't Even Speeding!!!" and to top it off, the cop wasn't even using radar or laser to get my speed. he just pulled me over.

so, here comes the cop, he's really pissed. "shut you car off, gimme your license, and step out of the car and come back to my car" i'm thinking, "shit, i'm going to get arrested for something ididn't even do" then he starts grilling me. you know, the regular questions,
"what's the hurry?"
"nothing officer, i was going 65"
"ok, where are you coming from?
"downtown, the Marble Club, playing pool"
"how fast were you going?"
"sixty-five"
"you sure?"
"yes, i set my cruise at 65"
"did you see those 3 cruisers on the median 5 miles back?"
"yes, i was going 65 when i passed you guys"
"are you sure?"
"yes"

then he says that another silver car passed them at 120mph and we thought it was you. then he asked.

"when you went past us, did you see any flashing lights in your rear view of us trying to catch up to you?"
i say, "when i went past, i looked up and saw nothing of the sort. i looked every 5 seconds to make sure"
"ok"

so after that little thing, he gives me back my license and away i go. the cop rockets past me and pulls over an old silver suburban. yeah, like that thing could 120. as i was getting closer to the base, i see at least 3 other silver/white cars pulled over. great tactic you guys, and you wonder why the locals dont like your kind.

LOL, another job well done. It reminds me of when my friend was walking back to his dorm and a car speeded past him and hid in a park lot, and a few seconds later two cop cars. Well my friend was jogging back and the two cops pulled up and drew guns on him. They told him to get on the ground and put his hands behind his back. After he explained it wasnt him and the guy was hiding over in the parking lot one of the cops went over and got the guy. When the cop came back they apologized and said they made a big mistake. It turns out my friends dad is really high up in the state police and after he told them that they gave him a ride back to his dorm as long as he didnt tell his dad.

That reminds me of a story...

My rich grandma used to let me take her M3 down to the carwash on saturdays, wash it, and drive it around on saturday nights. I never raced it because it wasn't my car, but I'd always load up some friends and go cruising. Well, I was about to head home, and I was at the stoplight next to this little honda. He starts revving and when the light turns green, he takes off. I accelerate normally from the stoplight, and it pissed me off because this honda that was getting on it wasn't really pulling away from me. It sounded like he had it floored, but it wasn't going aywhere. Anyways, I look back and see a police car, pulling both of us over. We park, and the officer comes up to my car and says "do you know why I pulled you over?" ..... "No, sir"..... "I saw you racing at that last stoplight"..... " Officer, If I was going to race him, I'd be winning"......... "..... uh.... umm.. uuuu.. .... *silcence*...*walks around car and looks at it* .... Ok, have good one". :D

Just to let you guys know, a police officer has up to 3 months to write a ticket. For example.... You run a stop sign, he pulls your over and lets you off with a verbal warning. A month later, he sees you run another stop sign and speed away. He pulls you over, writes you a ticket for the stop sign and speeding. He can then go back and write you another ticket for the stop sign you ran the month before. Now, is it done like this? VERY rarely will an officer do this, but it CAN be done.. You'd be suprised on the power that a police officer can use. A sheriff can legally kick a person out of his county, and if they return, they will be arrested for tresspassing. Wierd huh? And i'm not just a random person sayin all this, I am in my second year of studying law enforcement, and have lived with it for 19 years. Oh, and most states don't really have a "quota," some might, but most don't. And you don't have to sign a ticket. I have never onces seen my dad have a person sign a ticket after he pulls them over.

Don't give bad advice. An officer needs reasonable suspicion to search a car. When you say no, that gives him reasonable suspicion. Either way your car is getting searched...one way makes you look better than the other.

This shit never ceases to amaze me...

"I cut a guy off, made him swerve, then made fun of him when he pulled up beside me. I got a ticket in the mail, what BS!" -

"I passed a guy on the shoulder and got all 11 points on my license and yelled at!" - If it were up to me you'd also get a beating with a rubber hose for being a dipshit. You deserved worse than you got.

Cops aren't assholes, cops are DOING THEIR JOB. Did it ever occur to you there's a reason you're not supposed to cut people off or pass on a shoulder? You're not the only person on the road you know, and there's nothing special about you. The same laws that apply to everyone else apply to you as well. Quit being stupid and grow up.
