I was going to check my timing one more time before i decided to start my motor. I tried to turn my motor over by hand and it wouldnt. So I noticed my timing was off by a tooth and took it apart I got it right. Now with everything lined up right, it still turns a lil bit then sounds like it is hitting the valves. it will turn a lil bit then make a metalic bang sound. what do you think?

Sounds like you have timing off 180*. Did you study the vfaq.com timing procedure before attempting this? Dowel pins need to be at the 12 o'clock position...

yea. they are lined up just like that, everything is lined up

its a fresh built motor, it used to turn over. now when it turns over, it makes a baning sound like the pistons are hitting the valves, it will barely move in either direction

I dont know what it is, i am sitting in here trying different things but everything is lined up like it is supposed to be. oil pump, crank and both cams, i will try to turn it in one direction and it will stop and make a banging sound. is there anything that could jam something up? when i did the timing belt job 6 months ago, everything looked fine and turned over fine. now it doesnt want to turn over. all the bvious has been checked, spark plugs are out and valve cover is off, i dont know what it could be.

take the valve cover off and make sure all the rockers are on...

make sure that tha oil pump sprocket has its weight at the top and not the bottom.

well, I'm out of ideas then...those are the problems I have run into...your oil pump can be 180 degrees off, but that shouldn't cause an interfere...just unbalance the motor...good luck...

is there any other way my crank gear can go on? I have the cams set straight, the crank is set straight and the oil pump is lined up. the balance shaft eliminator kit has been installed by the machine shop that rebuilt my bottom end. If my timing is right, then why are my pistons smacking my valves?

well, sounds like you have piston to valve clearance problems if everything is right. Stock Cams? Did you have the head rebuit recently?. If they took more than .008 total off the block and the head, then the piston will hit the valve. may have to go thicker head gasket IF that is the problem. You may have some rod bearing clearance issues, or some slop in the piston pin. I can't think of anyhting else.

make sure you have the timing "tin" on the crank the right way. its absolutely critical that it is. if you have it backwards, your timing will be way off. im talking about the piece that sits directly behind the crank timing gear. its easy to put it on incorreclty because it will slide on either way. make sure your is on the right way.

well, I might try to remove the crank gear to see if that peice of tin is lined up right. I allready turned my motor over a couple times though, now 6 months later, the motor wont hand turn. stock cams and metal headgasket with arp's.

I am wondering if it is in my tranny. Number one and four pistons are up top and the cam gears are lined up. I was able to turn the motor over fine about 6 months ago before I put the motor in the car. I never tried to hand turn it afterwards. I am wondering if the tranny is locked up or something. I also removed the started and it is still locking up. It turns either way, just a lil bit and it locks up.

agre...thats what I was going to reply with...180 degress off...would be your problem.

Now I am starting to think it is the tranny. I will drop the tranny and try it tommorow. I spun the passenger side wheel and the motor wouldnt move at all. PLus there wasnt any resistance.

I found out that the tranny was making that noise because the act2600 would hit a rib in the bellhousing, so I decided to grind it down and it worked. Now my motor will turn over freely.

Yea, I had help from my boss ( I work at ford) to get the tranny out, grind it down, and reinstall it in an hour. I still have to rewire and install my fuel pump before it will run.

We checked everything over and it was fine. I talked to a guy in town about it and he said its very typical for these clutch kits to have problems sometimes with clearence issues. I started searching through the board and found that a few people had the same problem. I am willing to bet that my 6bolt swap with a act2600 in a fwd tranny is rare anyway, but the guy said that the act 2600's have problems with some cars mounting up right. Very reputable shop by the way.
