i've been getting this terrible smell whenever i sit in traffic for more than 25-30 minutes. smells like a dead animal. at first i thought it was my belts, but it wasn't. then it was really bad after doing a run on the track. i can only smell it on the inside, not on the outside. only smells bad when the outside temp is above 75. could this be my clutch? it's not really slipping at all. i can go up steep hills no problem(rpms stay where they should be) but i noticed in acceleration, when i shift from 1st to 2nd, there is a delay before you feel it grab. about a second delay.

so could it bethe clutch generating this god awful smell? need to know what to replace.

doesnt sound like burning clutch, if you think it may be though grab a tuner from youre area and get him to whiff it. burnt clutch is a pretty specific smell, also you should be able to smell it from the outside. my guess is theres something in youre airvent, heater core, ac vent or something. since the smell isnt permanent, I guess we can rule out ecu leakage.
I dunno something smells fishy about this whole thing though :p

i've only smelt it on the inside. i did pop the hood once to see ifthe belts were going bad, and i smelled it near the tranny. i thought i might have nailed something(animal) and it was stuck somewhere. i got the car up on a lift to inspect it, there was no trace of an animal, had it been an animal.

it's kind of a mix between a dead animal smell and carbon/sulfur smell. the dead animal smell over powers the carbon smell inside the cabin.

usually happens like i said, in stop -n- go traffic, or after a hard run.

my friend has a 3000gt, he thinks it's the clutch, although he hasn't smelled something like it before.

i'll replace the clutch soon, and i'll check the plate for some crazy things, if they're there

the way you describe the smell, is kinda like what my clutch smells like after i dump it. (thats why i've stopped dumping) It sounds to me like your burning up your clutch.

I had this really shitty-sulfur-death-smell in my car and what is was, was the altinator was over charging the batter. The light would also get brighter and dimper as well. Look and see if there is alot of carosion(sp) around you battery.

You parked in some cranky person's space at an apartment complex while they were on the way to dump the litter box. Your grille vents were closer.

It's liable to be fungus in your heater or AC evaporator, or in the drip tray of the AC. Chlorox.

I would check vents like Defiant said. Could be almost anything. Who knows it could be a dead mouse or even a bird. (Ive seen it before) You'd be surprised what animals get caught in a car and die. Ive seen gerbils, mice, birds and some others. Pretty wierd. But it happens. Thats why that one really warm or cold day you leave the windows closed. And keep the car tightly closed from top to bottom.

Leak at your flex-pipe? I have one and you cannot smell it on the outside but when I am sitting in traffic or really get on it its starts to rise into the cabin. Check to see if that is it. I have to fix my exhaust system according to my mechanic :p Too bad :D
