I just bought a bov that vents, and after reading many posts on here, i'm concerned my car is going to run badly and stall now. My intake i bought has a recirculation port. So that means i should get a recirculating bov right? I already read how the venting and recirculating bov's work. I just want to know if i have to go buy a new bov or not. Can someone explain why bovs even vent if everyone says not to get them?

all the air that has been read by the mas has to go somewhere back into the intake tract after the mas because all that air has already been read by it when the throttle plate closes and the air comes out of the bov. venting can cause the engine to put too much fuel in the combustion chamber and run the engine rich. so in turn it runs poorly. :laser: :thumb:

i think i may have abov that can be both, how can i tell? it has a hook up that looks like i can install a vacuum line. Does that mean it can reciculate?

the vaccum line is on the top of the bov needs to be hooked up anyway. if there is a larger port on the bov or a neck attatchment for it then you can recirc.

OK sorry about teh crappy picture but i had to draw it on paint. It's an HKS bov not ssq or racing, i think its just a standard bypass. I bought it from the classifieds here with little knowledge.
It has screws though, could i tighten the screws all the way down would that let it recirculate?
hopefully you guys can help me. The real bovs in the top arent mine, just there for comparison.

the screws let you increase or decrease the internal spring tension of the bov to run more or less boost without the bov leaking. if you see the neck (larger one) hook that up to your recirc tube and your good to go. the vaccum attatchment needs to be hooked up just like the one on your stock bov. :thumb: :laser:

yes it looks like you will be able too. you will prolly have to look up somethin on the net to adjust those screws though. im not quite sure how to do it right. there is probably some kind of info on the bov's website. :laser: :thumb:

first, you need that hose hooked up on the small nipple regardless. There should be a line coming off of the intake manifold. To recirculate means to have a hose going from the big hole where the air comes out on the bov back going back into the intake.

now im confused, can i put my bov in the stock location and use the stock dump tube? the stock bov has its neck in the middle and mine has its neck out the side.

isn't that the nipple u attach the vacuum line too..and it's the top screw the one that adjusts the bov...that nipple kinda looks like the vacuum nipple

Glad to see that you are making a wise choice. Most of the bad stuff, stalling, etc, is really only true when venting a stock BOV. Aftermarket ones will do fine except for running rich inbetween shifts because the BOV lets out air that was measured by the MAS.

If your BOV has a large hole in the side of it, much like the stock BOV, it can be vented. If not then you really can't vent. I assume you have something like this one.

In which case you cannot vent unless you get a custom pipe welded on or something.

But with the loss of some gas mileage and a litle bit of performance, you could run that BOV. Tons of people do it despite the setbacks.
