its about a car i am looking to purchase. (Talon TSi AWD...if anyone knows of any TSi AWD's around Ohio, feel free to let me know!)

"It does have the infamous DSM tap if you've owned a DSm you know
what I'm talking about I called every DSM shop I've come across and they
told me all 4G63 engines have that tap and with out an aftermarket fule
computer you can't gte rid of it otherwise it's not hurting anything."

i am new, but not ignorant. so be sure to tell me what you think. (btw i know what engine knock is, but never really saw how to actually fix it)

is the knock sensor dead? all that has been done to the car was intake and a catback exhaust.

If it's the "infamous" dsm tap, then it's just lifter tap, no biggy.

I don't know what he means by getting rid of it with a fuel comp. Only semi-successful method I've heard of is replacing with the later model of lifters.

Yep, it is just lifter tick, no problem. I have heard nothing but good things about the newest revised lifters. I have 4 friends who have installd them with immense success. I myself have 2 sets waiting to go in.

hmm..lifters? this is where i get lost. (how much)

so this will not harm the cars engine, it will just be annoying?

the lifters you can get for about 11-17 buks a pop, thats what i've heard anyway. Have not noticed what kinda of eclipse you have but think this way, number of valves=number of new lifters. honestly though, i would not worry about it, unless it ges real bad if i were you. Some people have cleaned them by taking them out, some have switched to different viscosity oils, some like me just dumped some Restore in the oil and it fixed the problem, at least for now. Check other threads on this site for more info, there are plenty!! this is one of those things our cars are infamous for...

so this is the STD of DSM problems.

ok, sounds good. i will prolly buy that talon. gonna go look tuesday.
thanks guys!

Yeah, like everyone else said he is just talking about the standard old DSM lifter tick. I will not hurt anything, its just a little annoying. Usually if you rev the engine it will go away for a while but will come right back. I believe if you look at other threads you will find the reason is that our cars run really low oil pressure at idol and if the lifters have any dirt in them they end up ticking or something like that. I know that we run low oil pressure at idol and that is what they say helps to cause it. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

hey man, Im from cleveland ohio-you want some dsm's go to autotrader.com (any where in the usa) and check it out! Its the best, I go there to look at dsm's and I cant even buy one. Mines enough! I dont have lifter noise, but now I will when I go out side!!!!!! If your gettin one dont settle for any thing but turbo! AWD is you know whats good for ya!

cool. are there many DSMers near NE Ohio?

yea i checked trader....i swear i called every TSi AWD and GSX ad with no results.

A side note... while lifter tick won't hurt your car it CAN hurt performance. You'll see the term phantom knock thrown around a lot, this is any noise/vibration that the knock sensor is hearing as actual knock. If it picks up enough timing and eventually boost will retard. In extreme cases the lifters can set it off.

(All of a sudden the cost of the new lifters sounds like a steal =)
