As much seat time as you can get and talk to all the drivers at the track!

If your talking about autocross I would say don't touch your car for now. The more mods you have done to your car the higher class they will move you up to. If your car is stock they will put you in a stock class. Another thing is that as people get better and spend more time doing it they do more to their car so the competition won't usually be as feirce in the stock classes. The other thing you have to consider is which mods will put you in what class. Check out scca.com for more info and where to find a rulebook (at least if you will be going to SCCA events)
You could have a pretty stock car but performance suspension and bigger wheels might put you in a class with 500 horsepower mustangs so you have to be careful. I raced my car a couple times stock but now I have a 3" exhaust an K&N (and a blown motor so I won't be racing any time soon) but if I did I would be in a much higher class but I really only gained 15 - 20 HP and no traction.
You should look into rally cross to. :thumb:

The bottom line is the more you understand your car and what makes it go, turn, and stop, the better the descisions you'll make with any upgrades. Getting in with a group of people at an autocross event and talking about your track experiences and asking questions about those experiences with deal with the specifics of your driving style.
JUST DO IT....................
