i took my car to get a tun-up today (plugs, oil, oil filter, throttle bore clean, fuel injection service). about an hour ago i was getting on the highway and had to change lanes so i tried to go faster so i could get ahead. i started going and then all the it was kinda like backfire. it seemed like for some reason it wasn't getting enough gas, then it would, let it wouldn't. the car was just jumping.

i'd like to find out what the problem is so i can take it up to those #@%#@%#@%#@%#@%#@%#@%s and tell them what's up.

What do you mean by injector service? Because if they pulled the injectors they may not have seated them back in place properly. If so you may be sucking air in around the injector seals. This in turn will keep your car from accelerating properly. Does it run rough at all otherwise?

Also check to see if the spark plugs were gapped properly. If the gap is incorrect the spark can be too weak to fire and ignite the fuel properly.

well basically they just cleaned it. the same thing i could of done with buying something from pep boys. i don't know if they gapped them right. they put bosch plugs in. i think it might be the plug wires, because it done it once before i went to the shop. i am going to get NGK plugs and Magnacor wires tommorow. what do i need to get plugs out and put them in??

A 13/16th 3/8" drive spark plug socket, a 5" 3/8" drive socket extension, a 3/8" drive torque wrench set to 18 ft/lbs, and a wire feeler gauge set to measure the gap at .028-.031". Gap the plugs first to .031 (Always gap them yourself, you can't trust the gap out of the box). Put the plug in the socket with the extension attached and lower into the plug well (the plug socket will have a rubber insert to hold the plug). Hand tighten by turning the extension, torque the plug to 18 ft/lbs, repeat.

Magnacore are nice wires but don't work twice as well as the $38 NGK-9571 spiral wound wires. At best they might be 10% better than the NGK's but they are thick and red.

another item to check, typically at the shop they botch up the spark plug wire routing, especially where they route under the fuel presuure dampener and snap into the loom thats mounted on the coil pack bracket. for some reason, they don't seem to think it's important to replace the wires in the loom and instead wedge them down between the outside of the loom and sheetmetal of the inside t-belt cover. Maybe they think it's a shortcut where you won't notice, and it is a PITA to get the wires routed just right, but worth the effort, it's a little easier to see and do with the top t-belt cover removed.----gregorio
