I'm trying to adjust the clutch in my 96 gst, my chilton guide says to disconnect my clutch switch connector to get to the locknut. i'm lost there LOL.

at the mitsu dealership the mechanic did it quick in like 3 minutes an i dont think he unhooked anything. im having trouble finding pictures of exatcky what im supposed to mess with.

basically my point of engagement is rather low, and it feels kinda squishy, not as firm as it used to be. i had a problem with my slave cylinder and a steel clutch hose thing, and it wasn't bled right so i had airbubbles in the system, and that caused my point of engagement to move around. the mechanic said that after adjusting the clutch it would feel squishy. why is that?

and can someone give me specific, like really noobified directions for adjust my point of engagement?

thanks

thanks it helped a lot. Now i have 1 more question
this says
2G Pedal "Pump Up"
If you are fighting an inconsistent pedal adjustment in a 2G, adjust the upper pedal stop adjuster so that you gain additional free play at the top of the pedal travel. If this is your problem, you will notice that the pedal suddenly gets very tight and the release point will suddenly move up a lot, this is the cause.

is the upper pedal stop adjuster the same thing as the upper travel stop or cruise control switch in the picture or is it something else?

Should be the same thing as pictured. :thumb:

Yep, same thing. Lay on your back and look at the pedal assembly. It is easier to understand when you are looking at your pedal in front of you rather than trying to interpret a drawing. :thumb:

so for more free play at the top you should screw it towards or away from the firewall?

You can't adjust free play directly. It's just there as a combination of engagement point and pedal stop adjustment. Pedal stop is to cruise switch as adjustment rod is to engagement point. Screw the rod in clockwise to raise the engagement point (if I'm thinking of it right, it all makes sense when I'm on my back in the footwell :D )

make sure that it is bled properly before you start to adjust the pedal. When I bled my clutch I didn't get all the air out the first time and my clutch felt mushy and the engagement was very low. I bled it again and it worked perfectly. Good luck.
