I was wondering if the injen intake pipe will work with a 16G and apexi power intake?

Also when upgrading to a 16G is it best to get the J pipe or save up and put the money towards a new intercooler with intercooler pipeing? Which FMICs are easy to install on a 16G equiped 2G? Thanks.

Please explain to me how a piece of aluminum (the adapter) can "fall apart." Or was it the filter that fell apart? All the kit is is a simple aluminum MAS adapter that adapts it to fit a 3" or so round filter. Not something that can just fall apart.

Get the cheap ebay adapter and slap a K&N filter on it. There is no difference.

yep same here. I'm running an ebay maf adapter and a real kn cone on the end, no problems at all, dont see what kind of problems there would be really.

damn are you serious?
well, i can always replace the filter with a K&N fipk. The hardpipe cant be all bad, It is better than the stock one right?

Its a pipe...there's not a whole lot that can go wrong with it. As long as its not leaking, dirty, and as long if it remotely fits the area you'll be fine...the adaptor to mount the cone filter to the MAF is different. They show two different kinds on the auction...I had the black one for awhile till I thought about it and noticed that it blocked off a good deal of air coming into the MAF. I promptly removed it and replaced it with the metal one they show. That filter will be fine for you as long as it isn't falling apart. You really wouldn't notice any difference between most open element filters. Only upside to K&N is that they come with emissions stickers if you need them.

i have a similar kit from extreme psi with a different filter and like they said above its a pipe theres not a whole lot that can go wrong with it so u should be fine. its better than the stock one.

IMO its a good buy. I mean there are realy expensive intakes out there and all that realy helps the most is the cone filter. So like someone said above, as long as the pipe doesnt leak and the filter holds out (which im sure it will) you will be fine. Looks similar to some intakes out there such as the Injen and the extreme psi intake (which i have and works fine)....so again...IMO good buy and have fun with ur new intake :thumb:

yes but it will get hot cuz of the temperature in the engine bay. that's why silicone piping is fun :)

Not to the point that it would 'heatsoak'. It all gets heated up beyond anything that engine bay temps could even touch when the air is compressed in the turbo...thats why we have an intercooler.

correct, but... the cooler the air is going to the turbo, the cooler it will be going into the intercooler and the cooler it will be going out..

i had that plastic one break on me from texas to south carolina....talk about duckt tape intake....get the metal

looks exactly like my injen intake, downside to the intake is if you have a upper i/c pipe the k&n fipk will not fit. the intake pipe is too long, but if you use the filter they give you than your in there like swim wear. :thumb:

looks like a good kit. I might get one myself.

Heatsoak? LOL, the temperature difference will be incredibly miniscule. i'd be surprised if it goes up when comparing this to the stock piece especially because of the increase in diameter increasing flow.

can someone please explain to me what the VPC and the blow through set up does? and what kind of piping do i need to connect with the K&N FIPK? thx

A blow through setup uses a general motors mass air flow sensor. U place it between ur bov and ur throttle boby/intake manifold. So u need to get a special upper intercooler pipe for that. Once u install that, u need a translator which is basically an adaptor that allows ur car to be compatible with a general motors mass air flow sensor. So ur KN&N intake has nothing to do with this. Now once u have installed this, u can disconnect the hose that goes from ur bov to ur intake pipeand plug the hole on ur intake pipe. This makes ur bov alot louder which is the main reason most people get it. Second reason is increased air flow and the third reason is if u pop an intercooler pipe u can drive home fine without stalling and then fix it.

so what is VPC?

Vein Pressure Converter. It's a system of fuel control using speed density. It was made by HKS but is now discontinued. It was known to be a pain to tune with and somewhat limited in it's potential. VPC style intakes are just tubes that extend far enough to fill the space that the stock MAS would have taken up.

Exactly, the airflow will not be noticebly affected by any of the minor temp differences between your stock rubber tube and the metal one.

If you are so worried about intake temps being high, build a box around your air filter to try and shield it from underhood temps.

is it bad to vent your bov into the atmosphere? i heard it makes a louder noise but it loses a bit of power.

I bought one of these e-bay pipes. It's not bad the only thing that sucked is that the mas to pipe coulpling is a major PITA to get on. I had to heat mine with a heat gun to get the f'er to to be plyable enough to get it on. Otherwise it's a lower grade cast aluminum pipe. As others said you get what you pay for. I also whipped out the grinder and smoothed out some of the rough casting on the inside. All and all I was a good buy!
