I sell alot of solid motor mounts for Small block and Big blocks chevys and those guys love them. So I started thinking about fabbing some for my 2G. I figured by using my LSD and solid mounts, I could fully eliminate wheel hop. Do you guys think it would be a good or bad idea to use solid mounts?? I dont want to do it if there are alot of negative effects..... Please give input.

If you think feeling an increase in engine vibrations is a negative effect, then it's a bad idea.

they aint all that bad a had mine made they filled the whole motor mount with a hard material. its kinda rough in idle but man does it help in a front wheel drive. it gives an asurance that wheel hop is almost gone. i think you should do it if you do tell me and ill buy some.

I can't get a picture or I would show you what I did..

But basically I

made a base out of 1/4" thick plate steel. same dimensions as sotck mount
driled holes and welded bolts to plate for attachement.
placed a jack under the front of the motor and raised it till pressure was on the rear mount
centered a pice of 2x2x1/8" box where the hole would be centered and welded it onto the base
marked and drilled the hole with it in the car so the holes lined up..
assembled it all..

I was haveing HORRIBLE motor shake even with energry suspension inserts (4-puck spec clutch) after I installed this I no longer get the tremor when the clutch is engauging and the shifts are so much better.. if sitting idling with the A/C on the vibration does get excessive, but I'd rather have that then the alternative

Where did you get your stock mounts filled? How much did it cost? Are you still using them?

With the Prothane poly mounts available, are solid mounts really necessary? I have virtually eliminated wheel hop with my setup and have very little vibration.

Polyurethane front motormount insert, timing belt side motormount, rear mount, new OEM tranny side rubber mount and LSD insert.

I have the urethane inserts. For 2G's we can only get inserts for the lower 2 mounts. I like them, but I still want stiffer. I too have an LSD. I just want to experiment with my mounts. I think solid mounts would be great for many of us FWD guys. :thumb:

I have the Prothane motor mounts in my FWD. Driver side, rear, and tranny mount are total replacements, and the lower front mount is an insert. Pain in the ass to install, but are better than busting stock ones all the time. i do have more vibration at idle, but through the gears its smooth. i think i got them for about $90. i also got new springs and shocks when i put the mounts in, and wheelhop is GONE...even when launching at the drag strip on street tires. the vibration gets annoying sometimes, but overall i'm glad i got them

i got a question are the first gen and the second gen motor mounts the same and do they mount in the same spot?
